My narrowed topic for this research is online dating leads to strong and long lasting relationships. I chose this topic because of several reasons.
Technology has made interaction among people very easy, and as a result, online dating has become one of the preferred ways of acquiring soulmates. Unlike in the past where online dating was not taken seriously, research has actually shown that most people in America and around the world have embraced online dating. In fact, most couples who were interviewed (Forbes, 22017) admitted that they met either through a dating website or through social media.
Online dating has been accelerated by technology especially the internet. It has literally turned the world into a global village. People from different states and countries are able to easily interact with each other via the internet. This is why most people have taken advantage of it to look for their marriage partners. Indeed, the National Academy of Sciences in the year 2013 released a report which indicated that marriages that began through online dating had the potential of lasting for over a year. With the tough economic times sometimes it becomes difficult for people to find time to meet physically. Consequently, interaction via dating website presents a very convenient way of meeting new people and form new relationships.
However, online dating has its negative side. According to an article published in the Gordian newspaper in July 2017, some people use pseudo names and pictures which are not their own to fool other in dating sites and apps. In most cases, men and women would lie in order to attract the attention of other men and women. “Catfishing” is an online term used to fake identity of other people. Such kinds of practices are the ones posing a great challenge to online dating. However, busting a “catfisher” might be easy by simply asking them out for a date.
This research primarily targets men and women who are of age and can have consensual sex. Unlike in the previous years where online dating was only associated to young people, it has become clear even older people are now using dating sites to find their marriage partners. I am certain that this kind of audience shares a lot with my values and opinions regarding this topic. Most of them will definitely agree that online dating is now the most common platform where men and women can find love.
The reason why this research targets men and women of different ages looking for love is that over the years it has increasingly become difficult to interact physically as it used to be back in the days. In addition, there has been a perception that online dating is mainly for young adults who are only interested in for short term sexual relationships. That is why the concept of online dating has not fully been embraced by a majority of people. Some are afraid to get involved fearing that they might be ridiculed or not take seriously. However, recent research has revealed that indeed online dating has the potential of creating strong and long lasting relationships. This research is therefore intended to demystify the erroneous perceptions that have existed before.
Thesis statement
Online dating has become one of the common platforms where people across different cultures, religious backgrounds and countries meet to interact and relate. Studies have shown that indeed online dating helps people to form strong and long-lasting relationships.
Generally the essay will try to demonstrate how online dating has the ability to form strong relationships among men and women. I will try to show through examples how people have been able to get marriage partners through online dating websites as well as other social media platforms. The discussion will also cover several issues that which make online dating successful in other people and not in some. On the other hand, essay will as well highlight some of the common challenges which come as a result of online dating. In general, the discussion will stress its focus on how online dating leads to successful relationships but also mention a few challenges that come with it.
The following are the some of the topic sentences I will use
* Online dating offers a platform where people can form serous relationship which can lead to stronger and long lasting marriages.
* Online dating has become a popular channel through which men and women can interact.
* Dating websites provide an opportunity through which people from different cultures can interact.
* Online dating has its fair share of challenges such as “catfishing” a term used to fake online identity.
Introduction
This part will mainly focus on the background information about my research topic as well as thesis statement. It will try to present a brief history of online dating and the experiences encountered by those who have gotten involve. It will also present a short summery of evidence to support why online dating has the ability to result into strong and long lasting relationships. On the on the other hand, backed by evidence the introduction part will also present examples of how people have misused online dating for their own selfish gains. In a nutshell, the introduction in this essay will lay the back ground of my essay.
The body is where the whole argument will play out. First of all I will present all the evidence that supports my topic that online dating can indeed lead to formation of strong relationships. I will be able to provide facts backed by concrete evidence. In the body I will also highlight the opposing side of the argument where some people do not believe that online dating can result into serous or strong relationships. I will also do this by providing facts backed by evidences
The concept of online dating has attracted numerous opposing views. Indeed, online dating is a new trend and it cannot be relied upon as a platform in which serous and meaningful relationships can be initiated and maintained. Face to face interactions have been and will continue to be the best way through which people can interact and learn each other properly. In addition, most people argue that dating websites and social media platforms have created a situation where people can fake their identity also referred to as “catfishing” and solicit friendship or sex from unsuspecting online users (Wilkinson, 2017). “catfishing” cases have been widely reported and even resulted to conviction of several people in the US and UK.
As much as much as it is true that online dating is a new trend which seems not to attract many people especially the elderly, the truth of the matter is that it is changing the way people form relationships. According to a recent research conducted by to University professors Jesue’ Ortega and Philip Hergovich at the University of Essex, the discovered that a good number of students were using online websites and some of them had formed strong and long lasting relationships as a result of that. (Burns, J. 2017). This research therefore goes against the popular opinion that online dating cannot result into serous relationships. The question of face to face interaction is important however, online dating does not imply that those interacting will not get a chance to physically meet and get to know each other.
On the issue of faking online identity also known as “catfishing”, the strategy is simple. If two people meet say through a dating website, their interaction should not end there. There is need to establish the real identity of the person you are interacting with. How can that be achieved? The best way to unearth a fake identity is by arranging a face to face meeting in a public place. If you realize that the person you have been talking to via a dating website or social media platform is not the one at the meeting you still have a choice to end that relationship before it goes further. Therefore the issue about fake online identities is something which can effectively be dealt with.
Online dating offers a platform where people can form serous relationship which can lead to stronger and long lasting marriages. Contrary to popular opinion about online dating, many people have embraced online dating and have been able to get marriage partners through such platforms. There are thousands of dating websites where people from different countries and cultures can interact and exchange their contacts. In china according a latest research conducted, most adults have no better place to find love than through online. (Lil, J. & Lipscomb A 2017). The study found out that most young men and women rarely get time for physical interaction because of the nature of their jobs. Zhou Yizin, a 30 year old auto sales manager confessed that he had tried all other options of meeting with “Mr. Right” until he she was introduced to online dating. She has now been in a relationship with a guy she met online for two years and she says she is very much contented with the relationship. (Lil, J & Limpcomb A. 2017).
Dating websites provide an opportunity through which people from different cultures and backgrounds can interact. Unlike physical interactions which are limited by geography, dating websites and social media platforms are able to accommodate people from different parts of world. It is for people to connect through the internet and plan for physical meetings. Besides, interactions can take place at any time of day or night. This makes it even easier for people who often find themselves too busy. Jesue Ortega, an economics lecturer at the University of Essex was shocked to find out that one third of marriages start online and 70 percent of gay as well. (Burns, J. 2017). He had thought online dating was only popular am...
