Palliative care would literally mean the action of taking active care to a patient who has stopped responding to the actual curative treatment. Palliative care is an approach that provides an improvement of the quality of life in the patient`s life and that of the family. For the family facing the problem due to the misfortune of the family member, the palliative care would be given to help alleviate their pain. A life-threatening illness such as cancer requires the provision of counseling services to the affected.
Palliative care provides one with relief from pain and many distressing signs by affirming life to the patient (Icarri, et al, 2013). Secondly, the care offers support to the family in trying to cope with the patient`s conditions. Thirdly, the care also is designed to see the patient hold on to life until the time of death. Palliative care is offered at the initial face of the illness. Other therapies are offered alongside palliative care, these therapies include the; psychological such as counseling of the affected.
