DatePlant Communication
Information available suggest the existence of myriad forms of communication between plants. Most of the information points to chemicals, contact, as well as, light. The remaining methods have not yet been proven, and scientists have all along been speculative concerning these alternative forms of communication between plants. The presence of neighboring plants has been found to affect germination of seeds from the neighbors despite these common forms of communication having been blocked. This happened even when all communication sources had been blocked. The energy allocated to the plant stems and root system differed based on the plant that neighbored the incumbent (Gagliano, et al.,2012).
The experiment involved studies of the neighbors, hetero-specific neighbor experiments, and germination, as well as, growth experiments. The experiments used Capsicum annuum seeds. The neighbor chosen was Foeniculum vulgare. The units of the experiment had a series of Petri dishes that had chili seeds and sandwiched in layers of 2mm felt. All these Petri dishes were arranged in a cylindrical box. Seeds were separated from the adult plants. Seeds and also adult plants got housed in replicate 44x44x50and 32x32x45 units with the small within the big one. The air between them was sucked to leave a vacuum (Gagliano et al., 2012). This meant no interference between any experimental units. The units would be interspersed daily to remove artifacts that would occur resultant to the positioning of the units in the room. Temperatures were also consecutively recorded so that differences in germination were assuredly not related to temperature differences. All were given similar conditions including dark a...
