About Bipolar Disorder
The condition, also referred to as manic depression, is a type of affective disorder that often goes past the ordinary ups and downs of life. In the end, it develops to become a medical condition and important health issue in the course of development. Depression that is associated with this disorder involves a child’s body, mood and thoughts.
There are three forms of depression that exist with bipolar disorder. These include major depression, bipolar disorder and dysthymic disorder. Bipolar disorder is the most commonly experienced form of this depression and affects people mostly within the Americas.
Who is affected by Bipolar Disease?
Every year, approximately 2.6% of American adults suffer bipolar disorder. In most instances, the disease comes at the age of 25 (Carell, 2010). In cases where signs are seen as early as 12 years, the condition may end up being confused with attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
The condition is seen in both males and females. However, the signs and symptoms that are seen across the sexes are likely to differ. Women are often more exposed to depression signs whereas the men are more vulnerable to manic symptoms. The disorder mostly begins at adolescence or early adulthood. Even if noted in young children, diagnosis mat still be challenging.
Symptoms of Bipolar Disease

The manic symptoms include inflated self-esteem, too much sex drive, poor judgement, unpredictable mood changes, increased talkativeness and increased irritability among several other related signs and symptoms. Teenagers who go through this condition may sometimes fail to understand the world around them and may make wrong judgement.
Diagnosis of Bipolar Disease
Medical personnel recommend early diagnosis of the condition. A diagnosis often takes place after a careful psychiatric examination and medical history performed. This is mostly done by a psychiatrist or any other health professional that is experienced in the field.
Treatment of Bipolar Disease
There are medical options available for the cure of bipolar disease. The treatment on adolescents are done based on the person’s age and medical history, tolerance for specific medical therapies, the healthcare professional’s preference and the adolescent’s expectations for the course of the condition (Carell, 2010).

However, there are high chances that bipolar disorder can eventually lead to death of the victim. According to the Centre for Disease Control (CDC), suicides lead to over 35000 lives in the United States yearly...
