Introduction
Bullying and burnout in the nursing professional is a contagious issue that has had effects on the individuals performing their tasks. The research that was aimed at establishing the fact that burnout was a potential negative consequence that was as a result of bullying. Further, the work that is conducted by the nurses is both emotional and physical, and the lack of recognition in regards to the capabilities and skills are some of the factors that make them a sense as if the administration is bullying them.
Objective
The objectives of the study were to study the relationship that existed between the bullying and burnout as well as the potential buffering effects on the psychological detachment contribution to the relationship (Randle, 2003). The hypothesis to be tested was that the bullying behavior had a direct relationship with the burnout. Additionally, the study also had an objective of studying the impact of the psychological detachment in moderation of the relationship between the burnout and bullying. The results were to be such that the nurses who reported high levels the psychological detachment were to report low levels of burnout (Strandmark, 2007).
Brief Literature Review
Bullying and burnout are workplace behaviors that can be termed as threatening degrading, belittling, and intimidating behavior that is to a group or an individual (Allen BC, 2014). Studies have revealed that bullying has continued to increase in various industries and issue that is on the rise especially in the nursing profession (GonzalezTrijueque, 2010). Further studies have shown that becoming psychologically detached one of the major ways that are applied in recovering (Huntington, 2011). Then approach is applied because research suggests that the detachment removes the work strain reactions that come as a result of the job stressors that have accumulated over time (Laschinger, 2010).
Reflection
The results of the study have shown that there has been an increasing case of bullying especially in the nursing profession. I am quite aware that the issue has an impact on the relationship that people keep at the workplace. Additionally, bullying is likely to have a negative impact on the performance of an individual in an area of specialization. Most nurses after going through the ordeal they are affected psychologically and may resolve to detach themselves from other people. I learned that the act of detaching by the nurses might serve as a way of reducing the effects of the bullying psychologically. The detachment will also protect the wellbeing of the persons affected by the condition of being bullied.
I have learned that the profession of nursing is being faced with challenging situations of bullying and burnout. Bullying is a major concern that has continued to affect nurses at their workplace. The support systems that are implemented in various hospitals are playing a crucial role in the efforts to address the negative impacts that are derived from bullying. Additionally, the system that is designed is supposed to take into account these impacts in troubleshooting and the designing or the policies that will prevent the vice from continuing to spread.
Low sense of personal accomplishment is one of the major effects or consequences of bullying that the nurses have to endure. I have learned that the condition is exhaustive and contributes to the depersonalization of individual and feeling that they are not worth anything.
