In this research report, I used four sources of information in order to provide a clear knowledge based on my topic. I used the sources from persuasive speech number 2 of the BCCC Library website. The four sources were from different databases. I used different databases since the databases that are provided in the BCCC Library website are the most recommended databases for the Persuasive Speech. I first used EBSCOhost database to give me appropriate information concerning my topic. Since my topic is "Childhood Obesity and Media," I typed the topic in the search engine of the database and the database gave different suggestions related with my topic. I had to choose the most appropriate topic that is closely related with my topic and carried out a study on the topic. EBSCOhost database was my first selection of the database because the database itself is a collection of databases having quality journal articles that could have assisted me in getting the appropriate information related with my area of study. Also, EBSCOhost database was my first selection of the database because the database itself is made in such a way that it can capture so many articles that relate with your area of study. My work was just to choose the most appropriate topic that was related with the area of study.
Also, I had to use Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center because the database provides a variety of information based on the contemporary social issues from many sources such as magazines, journals, websites, and newspapers. I used the database by first typing my topic in its search engine. The search engine provided a variety of suggestions related with my topic. I had to choose the suggestion that was related with my area of research. In addition, I had to use LexisNexis Academic Database because the database is well known to have a variety of full-text newspaper articles from the United States, United Kingdom, and beyond. I had Information Literacy in mind that if I use the database, the database could give appropriate information based on my research topic and the information could capture all the regions of the world without limiting on one region of the world. Lastly, I used eBook Collection Database because I had the knowledge that the database could have a collection of electronic books on all the topics related with my research topic. I had to choose an appropriate eBook in order to get the matching topic that related with my topic and carry out a study on the topic provided.
Part 2
There were many suggestions relating with my research topic, but I had to choose one suggestion from each database in order to complete my assignment. I was choosing one source from each database and each selection had a reason. I was looking for various credentials before selecting for the appropriate topic relating with my research topic. I used various was to analyze the best articles to complete my assignment. At first, I had to look if the article had an answer. I knew an article without an author is not considered as an academic article. I had to ensure that all my selected articles had authors. Also, I selected the four articles based on their years of publication. I had to choose recent publicized articles because I believed that recent articles contain the most updated information based on the Childhood Obesity and Media. I could not take the old articles because their information is not up to date yet my research to had to have updated information based on the research report topic. Lastly, I had to look if the articles had recognized publishers and the related cities of publications. This information was relevant since I had to get appropriate information from the authorized publishers rather than getting information from the unauthorized publishers and this can lead to wrong information that could have conflicted with the right information.
Part 3
Integrating the research into my speech was the hardest this I could do but I accomplished this by listening to the COMM110 Effective Speaking SQ. After listening to the speech and understanding how to integrate my research topic into speech, I had to put the written research topic into speech form by paying attention on the most essential parts of the research report. Each of the sources used here were relevant for me to complete the research report. For example, the Margret Montet (2015) report was useful in my research report because the journal was helpful in understanding all the components of the Information Literacy. After reading the journal article, I was in a position to explain all the appropriate definitions of Information Literacy. Also, Bucks County Community School (2015) is an article that helped me in understanding how to integrate my topic into a speech. The article had essential skills that are essential in making a good speech. Termini et al (2011) and Pediatrics (2011) are articles that clearly illustrate how Media is essential in communicating the issue of Childhood Obesity. The articles provide essential knowledge on the role of Media in communicating issues affecting Children especially the issue of Childhood Obesity.
