Cochlear Implants
Over the years, technology has grown, and new humans keep on developing new inventions. The cochlear implant is an electronic device implanted into an individual's ear, specifically in people who have a problem with hearing. It aids in restoring hearing in such individuals. It is a brilliant invention that proves its assistance in people who can no longer benefit from a hearing aid. Surprisingly, science and technology have developed, improving how humans handle their daily tasks using cochlear implants to restore hearing loss.
Components of a Cochlear Implant
A cochlear implant pure has electronic and plastic components that work co-currently to serve its purpose. It is made up of a microphone that quickly picks the desired sound from the environment. According to Baguley and Atlas (2017), a transmitter that conveyed the proper signals from a speech from the environment altering it into an electric impulse. Further, it has a speech processor that is used to choose a sound that is to be picked by the microphone. Additionally, it possesses an electrode that mainly picks up impulses from a simulator and transmits them to the areas of the auditory nerve in the head (Zeng et al., 2018). These components make the implant remarkably effective and have minimal rejection, especially by adults who need them. They portray positive feedback just after having the implants.
How does it work?
A hearing aid, which is also electronic, amplifies sound so that a damaged ear can have the ability to detect it, which makes to be dissimilar from a cochlear implant. A cochlear implant is quite different in that it is complex and sidesteps the damaged parts of the ear, and stimulates the auditory nerve (Wilson and Dorman, 2018). Signals which are produced by the implants are transmitted from the auditory nerve to the brain. The adaptation of a human body to the implant is gradual and takes time to master. Users can identify several warning sounds and understand other sounds in their environment from electronic devices and other people.
