Technological advancements have been the mainstay of most sectors currently. Healthcare department is not an exception; the field has seen embraced technology in many ways. There is apparent need for nurses to provide quality and safe services. The healthcare professionals have a responsibility to minimize costs and maintain efficiency. Technology is handy in promoting efficiency and quality of services in healthcare. However, there are different opinions about their use by healthcare professionals. Most significant is the implementation of new technology by nurses in care provision. They embrace technology to provide a safe, quality and cost-effective culture in their practices.
Technology has been implemented to reduce the number of errors in hospitals. Human is to error, hence the intervention of technology to improve limited human abilities. Many errors occur in the healthcare sector frequently. They have a potential of causing deaths and untold suffering in patients. Such mistakes lead to significant losses by most healthcare facilities. They reduce the efficiency of healthcare services. Moreover, they compromise the safety of practices in hospitals. Technology reduces considerably the error rate in facilities and provides a possible prediction of the mistakes. For instance, clinical decision support system (CDSS) which involves the nursing care reminder is used to reduce the error rate in hospitals. Therefore, technology usage helps compliment human reasoning (Terry & Grande, 2014).
Moreover, technology is essential in improving communication and solving understaffing problems. The challenges may lead to poor quality of health in patients. Besides, it is likely to increase the cost of treatment. It is noted that application of nursing practices can prevent most health complications. Technology is handy in enhancing better care provision by nurses to patients. For example, the missed nursing care involvement in electronic health care records reduces the error rates accordingly. Research reveals that most medical professionals who utilized missed nursing care technology reported a lesser number of missed care than their counterparts. Hence, application of technology is useful in healthcare (Mostashari, 2014).
It is worth noting; that technology may not serve its required purpose. This notion is because of the staff acceptability of the new information technology in the organization. Technology may serve to change the morale of workers in the firm. With low perception about technology, proper implementation is likely to fail. For instance, research identifies that in facilities where technology was implemented, there was the individual perception of users. The research noted an improvement in performance. Particularly among the nurses who had a positive perception about technology. On the other hand, some of the professionals who developed negative perception reported weak performances. Therefore, technology can negatively affect the attitude of the healthcare personnel in the organization (Mostashari, 2014).
