Testicular Cancer
The condition testicular cancer occurs when the cells in one or both testicles become malignant or abnormal. Based on the uniqueness of the cells in the tumor, testicular cancer may either be seminomas or nonseminomas (Russell, 2014). However, testicular cancer accounts for just 1 percent of all cancer conditions affecting men in the U.S.; although over eight thousand males are diagnosed with testicular cancer each year; approximately 390 men die each year(Bradford, 2012). Previous research has indicated that testicular cancer has a special association with race. Nonetheless, congenital abnormalities have been attributed significantly to constitute risk factors for testicular cancer. Even though, surgery might be done to correct the abnormalities, individuals are still faced with the risk of suffering testicular cancer.
In order to prevent testicular cancer, a number of interventions including vasectomy, can be undertaken. In the light of that it is important to determine whether having vasectomy or not having one, lead to decreased risks of getting testicular cancer. Vasectomy is an established technique of permanent male birth control that involves the surgical sealing of the vas deferens to prevent sperm release during ejaculation(Nursing Standard, 2013). It is one of the most common type of contraception amongst men that accounts for approximately 5 to 10 percent of all present contraceptive interventions (Brown, Patrician & Brosch 2012). Being a highly useful contraceptive method, Salman et al., (2012) reveals that the procedure can provide other advantages for humanity. Vasectomy might also be attributed to the prevention of testicular cancer. Salman et al., (2012) argue that in order to examine how vasectomy prevents testicular cancer, it is important to investigate the effects of vasectomy on histological alterations which take place in the testes and assess the damage based in a single cell gel electrophoresis.
