Abstract
This paper seeks to assess the post independence era in India and how the Sikhs face inequality in various aspects of life. The research has found that historical injustices against the Sikhs in the pre and post independence era contributed to the current ill-treatment and inequality of the Sikhs in Punjab state and India. The declaration of the state of emergency, the Sikhs dissent and the 1984 massacre are some of the instances when the Sikhs were faced with adversities that continue to influence their treatment in the contemporary India. Currently, the government continues to deny its role in the 1984 anti-Sikh attacks and refuses to acknowledge the events as a massacre. The government’s negligence encourages mistreatment and inequality against Sikhs in India by the Hindu Minority.
