Leadership in strategic reduction of risk of injury and infection
Good leadership is input important in trying to put into place strategies that are aimed at reducing the risk of injury and infection. This is important as it makes the running of hospitals and health institutions. We should all agree to the fact that leadership in health institutions is not autonomous. It is backed up by various entities which are important.Health institutions require being managed effectively as we have lives that are to be catered for here. According to Fell-Carlson, D. L. (2008), “a comprehensive safety model involves the entire organization in the safety effort. It is typically led by an individual with specialized knowledge and skills in safety management” (p 16) This has direct linkage to good leadership. It is the high time that all of us came to the understanding that health institutions require a lot of care as they are the main reasons that some of us are alive.Should we have laxity in the way that we deal with issue that exacerbate injury and infection. This can lead to the loss of many lives.
First of all, it is imperative that we first make ourselves familiar with the terms that are there in this topic.we have leadership.Talking of leadership, this is a basic skill that sees other people, or organisations manage others or other institutions.leadership is that act and sense of guidance ,where the latter sees to it that those that are being guided do not lose their way. “leadership shouls see to it that we have staff that is guided in all ways for quality services .”(Clarke & Sloane, 2002). It is leadership that sees to it that all works well, in the most effective manner. Talking of injury, this is the situation where we have harm on our bodies .This may bring impairment and affliction to our bodies, directly and indirectly .Injury can be of different degrees. The higher the degree, the higher that chances for loosing our lives. The injury causes harm to the body in a manner which we cannot ignore. It can at times lead to trauma, where a patient gets long term disability. If a patient with injury is not catered for well, they may face adverse effects. Infections, on the other hand, are the condition where bodily tissues are invaded by microorganisms.these infecting the body and cause harm .Infection are mostly brought about by pathogens which are in the environment. Pathogens that bring about injury can be of many types, ranging from the virus, bacteria, and fungi.
We have different types of injuries and infections.this different types are important as they can be attributed to how the management of hospitals are.The management is the one that can see to it that we reduce the different types of injuries and infections. According to Joint Commission Resources, Inc. (2008), “infections are of many types and doing away with them should be the aim of any health institution” Infections can be categorized under injury. This is because there is a direct link in the two aspects.basing on these grounds, the types of injuries that we have are physical injuries and infections.Physical injuries in hospitals may arise from falling and getting accidents here and there.Fractures are some of the common types of injuries and infections. We also have abrasions, burns, concussions, bruisings, pinched nerves, spinal cord injuries, injury to ligaments, rib fractures, et cetera .All these are the different types of injuries that can be seen it the perspective of a hospital and whatever happens therein .Taking of infections, we have different types of infection.first of all, we have infections that affect pour immune systems .These render our bodies unable to curb illnesses .we also have protozoa infections. These are the infections which are caused by protozoa. Bacterial infections are caused by bacteria such as staphylococcus, streptococcus, clostridium among others. These cause bacteria that cause bodily infection.viruses are also another type of pathogens that cause viral infections. They also cause infections.
With the above in mind, it is good if we now came to see how leadership falls into our line of research. “infection in healthcare are serious and call for legislation and management that helps to curb it” (Yokoe, et al., 2008 ,p 82) .this shows that leadership is necessary for this issue.Regarding the issues, these types of injuries and infection come to be if the leadership that we have is not strong. That way, a hospital gets to be run in ways which are cot good.good leadership comes to the rescue as having it sees to it that everything works in order. Having this, we have the assurance that everything works according to prior planning; that sees to it that a hospital thrives in all aspects. Leadership sees to it that the structures in a hospital are in such a way that they do not cause injury .there may be laxity in management and the floors get slippery. This way, patients may fall and experience the injuries that we have discussed above. Good management is seen in many aspects .leadership comes to the way the workers are aligned and emancipated on the need to keep everything in order.
In this regard, we have a theory that makes it easy for us to have good basis with which we base our arguments regarding this leadership issue. The theory helps us see everything into clear details in such a way that we can have an excellent analysis on everything done. Transformation theory is relevant as it tries to show us how leaders work with their subordinated in a bid to realize transformation in any entity. All this is in an attempt to accomplish the goals and objectives that an institution has set.this is realized through collective identity in the organization of health. This way,it is easy to have emancipation of workers, where they are first helped to view the organization as their own.It is through indoctrination that this is achieved. For this reason, transformational theory in our case enhances inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation and ideas that influence change, enhancing the need to work together in realising a common goal.
We have different levels of leadership. This is because the leadership should be strategic, being planned from the top hierarchy downwards. “Accountability begins with the chief executive officer and other senior leaders who provide the implementation for HAI prevention, hence making it a priority” (Marshall, et al., 2014 p10). In this case, HAI means healthcare associated infections. This shows that administration therein is hierarchical and also important. These levels entail administrators that aid in planning, all the way to the way to the doctors who aid in management. This goes down to the nurses and then the workers.Following the theory of transformation, al...
