Abstract
Sociologically, marriage is one of the most important structures within the community. In almost all countries, marriage links with family to bring stability and ensure people work together. Marriage has social acceptance, increased financial security, and building wealth together as benefits. On the other hand, detriments include limiting the partner's freedom, failure to find other lovers outside marriage, excessive dependence, and one party suffering more than the other in the case of divorce. Marriage is a socially accepted engagement in which two or more individuals agree to live together. Social acceptance directs marriage arrangements where people are allowed to marry from a particular community, not another, and the issue of single or multiple partners. Also, the increased security level for the partners, especially financially, is another advantage. When individuals enter a marriage union, they are bound to share many elements, including money and property, that they make when living together. As a result, marriage leads to financial stability. Limiting each individual's freedom to do what they desire decreases life quality. Moreover, a monogamous marriage does not allow other partners into the union, and the institution causes dependence on the other partner, which can sometimes be a disadvantage.
Benefits and Detriments of Marriage
Sociologically, marriage is one of the most important structures within the community. In almost all countries, marriage links with family to bring stability and ensure people work together. For instance, Joel and Jane (fictitious) met on campus while doing their undergraduate degrees. The two started dating for six months before Joel requested Jane to move in with him. After living together for another six months, they purchased an apartment where they began residing. Although the two had not officially tied the knot, they desired to, but Jane was hesitant since a single mother raised her after experiencing a heartbreaking divorce. In this case, she thought their union would end up as that of her parents. Joel grew up in a family with both parents living together. No divorce had ever occurred for him to experience the darker side of marriage; thus, he believed the institution worked. These two people spent their prior years thinking marriage represented a different aspect. Their views show marriage has benefits such as social acceptance, increased financial security, and building wealth together. On the other hand, detriments include limiting the partner's freedom, failure to find other lovers outside marriage, excessive dependence, and one party suffering more than the other in the case of divorce.
First, one of the benefits of marriage is its social acceptance capability. This advantage enhances the sociological definition of marriage, a socially accepted engagement in which two or more individuals agree to live together (Fortunato, 2018). Notably, the union has to be stable, and those involved should endure. Also, sociologists believe a sexual bond between the couples should exist, an aspect that increases the chances of the institution lasting. Also, since different societies have differentiated between family members and those who are not to ensure the marriage does not involve incest, this evidence proves that the system is socially accepted. Significantly, this benefit adds to the norms and rules within the society and regulates reproduction that is bound to happen in marriage. Social acceptance means those involved will follow regulations that guide interactions mainly based on how they are related. Therefore, social acceptance directs marriage arrangements where people are allowed to marry from a particular community and not another.
Additionally, social acceptance as an advantage ensures people follow those categories of people
