Evaluate the effect “Diversity Management” has in reducing discrimination in employment for LBGT individuals. By definition, Diversity management refers to the practice of tackling and bearing with various ways of life and personal distinctiveness within a definite group. Management practices include enlightening the group, accepting them and respect their diverse backgrounds. Over the recent years, the workforce has changed in various ways. It is increasingly becoming very branched out. Traditionally, diversity programs majorly focused on race, gender and other physical dimensions. However, in the present world, it covers a wider scope of personal and collective differences varying from style of working with sexual orientation. Diversity management in the workplace will result to lower costs or increased revenues and to improve the substructure. The current trends have enabled managers to consider the effectiveness of adding lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) accommodating principles (Greene and Gill 2009). The success of any organization widely relies on the intelligence, skills, talents and abilities of the workforce. When the employees capabilities are of importance, hard to come by and imitate, the organization can achieve competitive advantage. Having managers that are excellent in spotting, enlisting and hiring the best talent available will in return enable the organization to recruit a very productive workforce that adds significant value to the organization itself (Carayannis, 2008). Organizations have put keen interest on the fact that the best method that they can use to expand is by creating such kind of diversity. Putting such kind of diversity into practice enables the organization to meet the market demands as well as put up with new business ideas for the present status and potential developments. The significance and benefit of having such a varied environment improves output forms a better work interaction among staff and finally it boosts collective dependability. Any proficient LGBT workforce can help in eliminating the effect of “groupthink” which is the process of validation that comes in when part of a group begin to think alike. When the manager takes it upon himself or herself to bring people of significantly dissimilar backgrounds together, they are various ways of finding solutions (Carayannis, 2008). A diversified workforce results to increase in profits and strength of the team. Because it is because much business finds a way of creating harmony among people with different culture and this makes it easier for them to meet the basic needs of their identified consumers. At the central fundamental level, the effect of operating in a positive or rather LGBT environment has been illustrated by respondents as a way of facilitating secure communication. For instance, open flow communication among the staff hence making the subordinates feel at home with being up-close and candid in the work environment. The approach will enable the people to have freedom to speak and express them. Therefore, the persons involved will be encouraged and allows for the staff to be in high spirits and more likely to be good at carrying out the assigned role in the organization structure. In return, the effort put gives room for the workers to be promoted all the way to the top of the hierarchy. Diversity management plays a significant role in creating awareness among the workforce and encouraging them to embrace diversity by recognizing that different groups had different needs and valued.
How diversity management addresses barriers faced by disabled people in the workplaceit is the policy of any firm to avoid discrimination against persons with disabilities who are employed or looking for employment with the firm on the basis of physical or mental disability. Disabled employees are highly exposed to the risk of being bullied at the workplace depending on the nature of their disability. In the following, the barriers faced by disabled people will be addressed as well as the various ways in which diversity management helps in curbing the mentioned restrictions. Some of these obstacles include: fellow workmates holding back information that has an effect on the performance of the disabled persons. Pressure from one of the workmates forcing the disabled person to do a certain kind of work below their know-how level. Another major challenge is having their views and opinions ignored and finally unnecessary supervision by the fellow staff or supervisor which makes them more uncomfortable hence lowering their productivity. Barrier elimination in the workplace is only achievable by the improvement and agreement of policies that possess a patent and definite focus on the require part of labor. Workplace bullying: a form of barriers that affect people with disability can be of great effect to both the organization and individual as well. For the individual, it affects their safety, health and welfare which results to them being very anxious and depressed. Through the implementation of diverse management in the workplace, the HR department is actively involved in protecting employees from being bullied by the administration in workplaces through coming up with anti-bullying policies. An effective HR management always strives to ensure conformity with the land laws to protect the health and safety of disabled workers in the organization. Some disabled people feel that their major hindrance to employment would be other people’s attitude towards them. From research, most employees have divided feelings and some even believe that people with disability should not apply for jobs in the first place while others believe that they are a crucial resource that is untapped. Over time, the able employees have been trained on how to live with the disabled people and ways in which they can accept them as part of their workforce without overlooking their disability state.
