Abstract
Social media has had an increase in several users having over 4billion users who use it on daily basis. Social media usage has grown over the last 20 years recording new users daily on different platforms. Communication is the main reason why social media is being used by many people around the world. Businesses are being operated on different social media platforms that have seen an increase in the number of social media users. The increase in electronic as a way of communication has been found to have some health effects on some of their users. Research studies have confirmed that social media not only does it affects eyesight but also affects the person’s emotions. The mind of an active user adapts to the normal routine of the body, which is to wake up and go live or online on their different platforms. This habit is continuous and leads to a permanent activity that leads to it being addictive. Anxiety as a health effect experienced by online users leads to the development of other traits that they exhibit. Experiment shows that the participants who were restricted from online usage had higher means indicating they had higher self-esteem compared to those who were not restricted.

Communication is key in every one of our lives, we cannot do without communication has been made easier by the introduction of social media. Social media helps people to communicate easily, efficiently and be able to share videos and pictures at a faster rate. Families are being connected because of social media that allows them to video call their loved ones in any place and time. Businesses are being operated on different social media platforms that have seen an increase in the number of social media users (Culnan et al.,2010). During this pandemic, social media platforms were frequently used to enhance social distancing and reducing physical contact with people. This was a nice tool in helping to control the spread of the virus, meetings were held through social media platforms. This indicates that social media platforms have become an important part of our lives, and have proven to be of help during pandemics.
Social media usage has grown for the last 20 years recording new users only on different platforms. This indicates in every 10 people, 9 of them are connected to one platform and 5 of them are connected to two different platforms and are active users (Jansen et al., 2011). The platforms have gained immense popularity due to their high usage, increase in advertisements, and business and organizations preferring it as an informal method of communication. It is clear in every household you will find more than one member who is actively connected to the platforms and sometimes is addicted to social media usage. The increase in electronic as a way of communication has been found to have some health effects on some of their users (Moorhead et al., 2013). This type of communication affects how you would interact physically with people around you. The increase of users and organizations moving towards social media platforms as a way of communication has affected many people emotionally, physically, and even socially.
