It is so shocking that in England, over 200,000 households experience homelessness every year (Vohra et al., 2022). Homeless has become a very critical issue in the past decade and it is high time to ensure that this becomes a problem of the past. This paper seeks to explain various reasons why people become homeless. The main reason why many people are homeless is due to lack of affordable housing. Houses have become so expensive nowadays. It takes a fortune just to own a comfortable apartment. Houses are so expensive that having one is considered a luxury. For example, in the United States, most students in college have the American dream of one day having a job and saving up enough during their prime years so that they may have a retirement home in the future. This shows how expensive owning a house is and it is high time for the cost to be lowered so that many people can own homes. Domestic abuse is also a trigger for homelessness. This mostly affects women and children who are forced to flee for refuge somewhere else. This is often due to abuse from the male spouse. Lack of a job in the area they end up in eventually leads them to sleep on the streets or even look for church shelters if any. No child should be allowed to stay on the streets because of domestic violence. Economic hardships also lead to homelessness. Inflation is a main contributor since it causes a significant increase in the price of products and services.  Welfare cuts have significantly affected housing benefits leading to an increase in the number of evictions and homelessness mostly in England (Fitzpatrick et al., 2021).
