According to World Renewable Energy Network (2000, non renewable energy resource is the type of energy resource that the rate of replacement by natural process is very slow or it is not replaced at all. The best example is energy resource such as the fossil fuels. For the renewable energy recourses they are those that the rate of replenishment is very vast and on a human timescale. They are mainly comprised of wind, sunlight, waves, tides and geothermal heat. Science has always been on the fore front in discovering and determining whether different energy resources need to be embarrassed.
The type of fuel that is extracted by offshore oil mining is mainly petroleum. The regions that petroleum mainly lies is beneath the sea bed. There are various risks and challenges that are associated by the process of offshore oil drilling. These mainly include the hydrocarbons that are produced during the drilling process have been found to negatively impact the environment. Additionally, most of the materials that are used during drilling have been found to be poisonous (Fang & Duan, 2014).
According to Guo et al (2005), due to advancement in technology, operations involving off shore drilling are capable to utilize facilities of different types. These include, drill ships, drilling rigs (swamp barges and jack up barges), combined production and drilling facilities which are either floating platforms or bottom founded among the rest. In waters that are shallow, what is ensured is the drilling units are anchored to the sea bed. For waters that are deep and of about 1500 to 5000 feet, dynamic positioning is used to maintain the drill ships and semi submersibles at the required location of drilling.
