Abstract
There has been the presence of multiple software automation techniques over time, designed to minimize costs, improve customer satisfaction and reduce the number of errors involved in processes. In the recent past, Robotic Process Automation (RPA) has gained tremendous popularity in its use. RPA gives rise to robots that can mimic human behavior. RPA provides attended and unattended robots that work with and without human intervention, respectively. Besides, RPA robots are equipped with artificial intelligence engines, i.e., computer vision and machine learning, and they can learn and execute their automation based on recorded human actions.
Introduction
Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is a brand technology in the market that aims to come up with robots that can mimic human behavior. Changing to RPA aims to reduce costs, improve customer satisfaction, increase production rates, and reduce errors. Research has it that the adoption of the RPA technique has become the most commonly used across industries over the recent past.
Generally, the main aim of the RPA system is to automate business processes through business logic and user inputs (Doguc, 2022). The applications of RPA provide users with tools that are used in defining these robots mimicking their interactions with applications involved in processing transactions, data manipulation, triggering responses, and enhancing communication with other digital systems. Pieces of research have indicated that the application of automation technology such as RPA will significantly impact the economy up to the figure of $6.7 trillion by 2025 (Van et al., 2018). Similar reports have indicated that after the mobile Internet industry, the automation industry will come second in its impact on the economy. There is an expectation that RPA is yet to experience tremendous growth with a projection of further growth.
The term RPA can be dated back to the mid-200s when computer technologies such as computer vision and workflow automation had already been in the market for a while. Although RPA is a growing technology, it still depends on other technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and workflow automation.
