Introduction
Heidegger examined the connection between building and dwelling. He suggested that a design is fundamentally anticipated for men's abode and dwelling. However, he also sets out certain contemplations that sabotage this basic idea. He highlights the thought that not all structures are a dwelling. He also ascertained that building and dwelling are the same, yet this idea is refuted when a building is rigorously restricted as a simple physical structure; therefore, it is possible for a building not to be a dwelling, according to him in this scenario. The contemplations previously mentioned making a point of convergence out of Heidegger's conversation. Subsequently, we will attempt to analyze the two terms (building and dwelling). We should not also consider building from an engineering perspective. Rather we seek to answer the questions: What is the definition of dwelling, and how is building a part of dwelling?
Heidegger suggests that we can only achieve dwelling through a building, and therefore the building aims to accomplish dwelling.1 Though we cannot group all buildings as dwellings take, for example, bridges, sports arenas, freeways, dams, and even shopping malls. It is imperative to note that these structures, even though they aren't our dwelling, form part of our dwelling. For instance, a driver might consider the highway his home, yet he does not live there. A sportsman is also said to be at home on the field, yet he doesn't abide. These structures mentioned house people. They occupy them but don't dwell in them. Dwelling and building are therefore inter-connected as a culmination and a means, respectively. We can admit that the two, even though they differ in meaning, are ideas that have something right in them. However, simultaneously building isn't only a route toward dwelling but also to build in itself is already to dwell.
The original gist of building and dwelling
Language serves as the best tool to use when finding out the nature of an item. In looking at the original words used for 'building,' we look into the original meaning of the word, and we ask ourselves what Bauen refers to? The ancient European word for building, buan, implies to stay in residence. Another secret hint of safeguarding the word is in the expression Nachbar or neighbor. The neighbor in Old English is the nechgehur; Nach stands for a close; and gebur, which stands for dweller. Therefore, a close dweller would be referred to as the Nachbar in german or the Nachgebur in old English. They would refer to the neighbor as the Nachgebauer, the close occupant, he who dwells close by.
Presently,buan not just reveals to us that bauen, which is to form, also implies to dwell. Likewise, it provides some insight concerning how we need to consider the two words. When we talk about dwelling, we typically ponder about deeds executed by individuals, which is related to other numerous different exercises. The dwelling was initially expressed by the term bauen. Building as a dwelling means existing in the world for man's regular involvement in his habitat; therefore, it subsides behind the complex manners by which dwelling is achieved. Construction and cultivation later claimed the name of bauen or building and the authenticity of construction. The actual interpretation of bauen, therefore, fell into obscurity.
The alteration of the language in a manner withdrew the candid significance of the word bauen, meaning dwelling, and is proof of the basic idea of these words, for, with the fundamental expressions of language, their actual significance effectively lost meaning. We can therefore make these conclusions from the research on the history of the word bauen;
