It is unclear whether the use of OSCE in Psychiatry is acceptable or not as there is no available literature despite it excessive use in Psychiatry examinations since its inception in 1970.Whilst the OSCEs may be reliable, there may be a number of problems related to validity and acceptability, including in its costs.
Alternatives to the OSCE in the field of Psychiatry should be investigated further. Despite the OSCEs ubiquity, one size does not fit all.

My research may be a first thought in changing the way examination are conducted in Psychiatry.
By Doing a Scoping Review I will be able to map rapidly the main sources and type of evidence available.
These are time tested and there is huge evidence in literature in this regard.
I will perform electronic searches for extraction of data using key words for example (OSCE, reliability, psychiatry) using the following search engines:
Medline, Cochrane data base, Embase, Medical Education Journal, ERIC(Education Research Centre), Medical Teacher (a journal of the association for medical education in Europe) and Other web base online resources for example BMJ,JAMA and if possible hand searches from local libraries.
Dissertation Layout & Presentation

Abstract
Background: The Objective Structured Clinical Examination is a viable assessment tool for students in Psychiatry. Extensive research has documented that OSCE is valid in assessing clinical skills that are significant to the practise of psychiatry. OSCE comprises of stages that test a range of learning and skills to assess undergraduate Psychiatrists. It is unclear if the use of OSCE in Psychiatry is acceptable, because there is no available literature, despite the use of OSCE in psychiatry examinations since its launch in 1970. Besides, though OSCE may be reliable, there are various problems related to its acceptability and validity such as its cost.
Objective: This paper is a scoping review that assesses the reliability and validity of Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) when used to evaluate undergraduate students in the Psychiatry. It reviews the OSCE as a strategy of evaluating the clinical competence in medical Psychiatrists and offers an in-depth reflection of the research literature concerning the perception of the student on the process of OSCE that forms the basis when using OSCE to evaluate medical psychiatrists.
Method: A scoping review of the OSCE was conducted using electronic searches for the data extraction such as the ERIC (Education Research Centre), Medline, Cochrane Database, Embase, Medical Education Journal, and Medical Teacher. The established five-stage scoping methodology used were identification of research question, identification of relevant studies, study selection, charting the data, and collating, summarising and reporting of results.
Results: The initial search retrieved over 1425 citations after screening titles and abstracts. There were 415 eligible articles based on the inclusion/exclusion criteria. The research topic areas such as examination of students in psychiatry, reliability of OSCE, validity of OSCE, and the use of Objective Structured Clinical Examination in Psychiatry were also identified.
Conclusion: OSCE is a valid and reliable method in evaluating the clinical competencies of undergraduate students in Psychiatry. It has many advantages over traditional methods of evaluation and it is reliable in assessing the psychiatry skills.
