Quantitative Project Report-Individual
This project report focused on a quantitative analysis of transport system in Cardiff city. It included a qualitative data review meant to help human geographers and planners to integrate the different modes of transport with an aim of increasing railway network in the city. Within the report, a mapped data was used to give recommendations based on a population whose age bracket was between 16 and 74 years. Thematically, the report was about mobility and travel and how travel networks had over the years complemented each other. The report utilized both historical and contemporary approaches on commuter migration, access, and need for planned travel to qualitatively and quantitatively explain the approaches.
A secondary data was therefore keenly analyzed to explain some of the underlying questions such as how people travel to work (Xiao, Orford and Webster 2016). For the analysis, Geographical Information System (GIS) alongside SPSS datasets were used to draw maps and tables of travel information. From the conclusions drawn from GIS and SPSS, recommendations were made on railway network expansion. A correlation between the existing commuter network versus the travel demand and the complimentary aspect of the travel network was used to recommend how wide should new railway stations be spread. Using the GIS maps, location of the new rail way stations was generally to be close to the existing railway network.
