1. Background
The concerns of employees' performance during organizational change have significantly increased (Merriman, Sen, Fell, & Litzky, 2016). According to the study conducted by Bonini, Görner, and Jones (2010), more than 50% of the organisation indicated that employee performance is one of the most important initiatives and goals. In this regard, more than 50% of the teams claimed that they have carried out significant changes within their business models to benefit from the factors associated with organizational changes (Bonini et al., 2010). Merriman et al. (2016) further argue that most employees do not often prioritize the efforts directed towards organizational performance because their immediate objectives and goals differ from leadership strategies. As a result, these employees perceive their work tasks and obligations to be more important than pursuing long-term organizational sustainability (Merriman et al., 2016).
Fundamentally, organizations require efficient leaders in their specific sectors to enhance employee performance during organizational changes. Several studies (Leavy, 2016; Yukl, 2012) argue that regardless of the nature of the business, leadership strategies influence employee performance in various ways. For instance, organizations depend on effective leadership strategies to promote, encourage, and maintain a productive workforce (Van Wart, 2017). Therefore, in organizations where effective leadership strategies are evident, the morale and performance of employees increase, hence, enhancing the sustainability of the organization (Van Wart, 2017). Proper and effective leadership strategies help an organization to effectively choose and emphasize particular skill sets that are essential for their sustainable evolution. Abu Dhabi Municipality is currently facing difficulty in their performances and is therefore undergoing an organizational change. According to Zhu et al. (2018), the managers and higher authorities have decided to implement appropriate leadership skills such as autocratic style, democratic style, and participative style for the successful estimation of the effectiveness of the leadership. The research will assess the context of effectively estimating if leadership processes can help to enhance their organizational development.
