Summary
Renal disease represents a group of health complications reported in the kidney. Renal diseases are a serious health concern and research has shown ESRD to have a great financial and human resource burden. ESRD management involves the use of in-centre haemodialysis, a treatment modality with a lot of challenges to the patient, such as travel to dialysis centre, long-lasting haemodialysis, restricted dieting, and no guaranteed well-being after the haemodialysis treatment. A clinical pathway is considered as a tool used as a provisional guideline to evidence-based practice on healthcare, which purposes to standardize and improve clinical care in major healthcare interventions. Noticeably, only cancer patient have an access to the PC services in SA while other non-malignant life-threating conditions have not or have very limited access to PC service. As such, there is an evidence-practice gap in including and implementing palliative care and counselling services for non-cancer patients in SA. The research will use a mixed research involved the utilization of both qualitative research and quantitative methods. The study will use observations, interviews, and questionnaires to collect its data. Data analysis will use thematic analysis for qualitative data and descriptive and inferential statistics for quantitative research. In conclusion, this study will establish a national clinical pathway for renal palliative care services in SA, thus informing researchers as well as clinical professionals about palliative care in Saudi Arabia. It will also enlighten healthcare professional in Saudi about PC for non-cancer patients.
