Civil Disobedience: Martin Luther King Jr. (Research Paper Sample)

The strategy of civil rights disobedience, usually nonviolent, has been used successfully in different parts of the world. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was not the first person to use the tactic in fighting for the rights of the people. Dr. King and his movement widely known as the American Civil Rights Movement succeeded in fighting for the rights of African Americans . The success of his movement is enough evidence that civil disobedience is a commendable approach when fighting for civil rights. Deriving evidence from Dr. King, one may competently defend the nonviolent civil disobedience. 
A review of Dr. King’s life and undertakings reveals that he derived inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi . Gandhi is known for using the nonviolent civil rights disobedience in his pursuit for civil rights objectives and goals in India. An identified incidence was when Gandhi, during the renowned Gandhi’s Salt March, led tens of thousands people on a 250-mile demonstration . This served as an important move towards India’s progress from colonization. 
Dr. King could have had a hard time advancing the civil rights of African Americans if he did not opt for the nonviolent civil disobedience. Black Americans had been perceived and treated as second-class citizens for over a century until the intervention by Dr. King . Often, the confrontation by police and other national security organs attracts the attention of the international community. Notably, brutal crackdown by security agencies on nonviolent demonstrators or protestors attracts media attention, which helps to enhance the strength of the movement in question . 
Throughout history, nonviolent civil disobedience has been successful and helped many movements to achieve their goals. Martin Luther King opted for civil disobedience and was successful. He borrowed the approach from earlier activists who succeeded using the same, evidence that civil disobedience warrants success in the war for in civil rights.
