UPS Drone Delivery SWOT Analysis
Drone delivery draws attention to what the technology might look like in a few years to come. UPS, a multinational package delivery and supply chain management company, has decided to explore the full potential of drones and the feasibility of making deliveries using them. With the production of both commercial and personal drones continuing to improve, the potentials of utilizing drones outweigh current road, rail, and water delivery systems due to timelessness, precision, speed of delivery and overall efficiency. Critically analyzing UPS’s internal strengths, weaknesses and external opportunities and threats of using drones to make deliveries shows it is an unexploited market that the company can capitalize on to make forays into the drones and technology consultancy business.
Strengths
Drone delivery technology will profoundly cut the projected delivery time. Drones are more personalized compared to both air and road transport. Additionally, they do not contend with traffic, which explains the reduced time of delivery (Ghemawat 82). Consequently, the company will efficaciously build on and improve its reputation due to the reduced turnaround time for deliveries (Mason et al.). Ultimately, the company will grow its market share by attracting clients interested in faster, safer and more personalized deliveries. A company with a proven track record of technology adoption and innovation, it will benefit from consumer-driven innovation improving its drone delivery business (Mason et al.). A more extensive market reach implies higher revenues generated and profit margins to industry gold and silver industry competitors.
