Gender Violence
Introduction
Gender-based violence has been the talk of the day for many years now. A lot of concern has been directed towards gender violence in many countries. Many states around the globe have identified the violence against women as a crime against the human rights specifically the women. The violence against women is experienced in all the socio-economic and cultural settings in many communities. The women in such settings are forced to accept, and rationalize violence, and they keep silent about the events. Any form of violence is known to be associated with a severe impact on the economic status of the country since the women carry the brunt of the domestic offence as well as the health and mental problems. The main objective of this study is to discuss gender violence, its causes, and impacts to the society with relations to the Hispanic world.
Understanding Gender Based Violence
The victims of the gender-based violence during the Hispanic world are widely known to be the female species in humans. They face threats that range from rape, psychological abuse, or partner violence. Understanding the gender violence may require one to know the different levels of violence. First, during the Hispanic world in the past twenty years, there was the violence within the home. It is commonly referred to as domestic violence, and it is the most persistent type of gender violence. The popularly known psychological abuse is as well associated with physical abuse, and most of the people who are violated by their spouses are often abused severally. Some survey has proven that in the Hispanic, more than one million females are harassed by their husbands. Another level may include the violence against women by the entire community. It may as well include the commercialization and the abuse of the women. The bodies may be related to the increase of poverty that mainly comes from the unbridled economic liberalism. Such types that occur within the public and it include the contraception that is imposed on the women, selective abortion of the fetus and also the female infanticide among others (Zona & Milan).
Another level may involve the violence against women motivated by the state. The State’s priorities may as well perpetrate violence such as physical, sexual, and psychological that may be driven by the respect of the fundamental rights. The rise of religious forces in some countries appears to be disturbing as it may come with barriers to the rights of the women as well as their economic setting and the freedom of the women. The exclusion of women in the social settings is immense that it significantly forms a new apartheid. The women in such settings are considered humans in the second class, inferior, and they are deprived of their fundamental rights. In some other instances, the crime against the women is used as a tool of war in armed conflict situations (Zimmerman & Farrell).
Types of Gender Based Violence
Gender violence may exist in many forms. First, there can be the commercial sexual exploitation where the developing countries, the female gender are forced to commit prostitution. It is noted that sex tourism always happened when the rich men traveled especially during the holidays from the developed countries. Most of the third world countries had hotel settings where the young girls would satisfy their sexual needs violating the law supporting the rights of a child, and it proved violence against the women gender. Rape is another form of gender violence where the ladies are forced into sexual acts against their will, and it is a pervasive form of sexual violence. It is one form of rape that was highly experienced during the Hispanic world. Rape has long been seen as a sign of a man getting his ways with a woman. The rape criminals are mostly people who are known to the victims and may sometimes be their close family members or relatives. It happens to female gender of any age, any level of education, religion, and any other woman around the globe can be a victim of rape.
Rape victims are found to have lost control of their lives after the terrifying events as they seem to have given away their dignity to the perpetrators, and they feel safe no more. It is a threat that remains constant in the politically unstable areas where it is being used as a war instrument to humiliate the enemy. “Female genital mutilation” is also a form of gender violence where the girl child is taken through traditional practices that involve the cutting of their genital parts as a rite of passage. The cutting is also thought to be associated with lack of orgasm or the sexual gratification and depression (Windle & Mrug). It is a practice that may claim the life of an individual because most of the communities practicing it are not using any qualified professions.
Causes of Gender Violence
The causes of gender-based offenses are multiple, and they depend on the type of abuse the victim has experienced. The traditional attitude towards the women in the society has a lot to contribute to the gender violence in the society. It can as well be caused by the difference in privileges between the male and women in the Hispanic community. The basis of gender violence is primarily based on traditional beliefs and stereotypes that deemed women as inferior to men rather than comparing their abilities in determining the differences. The view that the differences between men and women develop violence is based on the idea that women are weak. They are discriminated since the theory produces an understanding that women possess no skills and are not intelligent enough to hold higher positions in the society. Hence, the aspects help in understanding the long-standing patterns of socialization experienced in the world today. Women have similar capabilities and intelligence to handle.
Financial can as well be a cause of gender violence in some settings. In most cases when a man cannot employ authority in a more intellectual manner, most of them resort to using physical means. The male gender in most communities is depicted as being strong, creative, and talented while the female sex is brought up believing to have the opposite of the traits that are possessed but the men. There are some roles that the boys grow up knowing that they are not supposed to handle. After attaining the adulthood, and decides to get married, he might marry a woman who was brought up in a family where the duties were equally shared between the boys and the girls. The violence will then arise when the woman demands that they do the duties equally, and the man believes in being out of the context of such duties (Foster & Price).
Effects of Gender Violence
Gender-based violence may have devastating and long lasting effects that the victims may live with throughout their lives. The aftermath of the gender based violence may be a threat to the reproductive health of a victim and the survivors would live their lives wounded. A woman who has experienced any forms of gender crimes and lives in abusive relationships with their partners may get pregnant or undergo an abortion against their will. In some cases, a partner may intentionally expose the other partner to sexually transmitted diseases leaving them with a lifetime infection and a traumatized life. The violence is as well believed to have effects on the children who have had or have witnessed violence as they may become withdrawn or depressed. The child may as well become aggressive, and they tend to claim control over their younger siblings. The aggressive form of behavior is usually carried out by the boys to adulthood, and they may end up being their spouses.
Among the consequences might be the unwanted pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases physical injury as well as trauma. In many parts around the world, a lot of trauma is connected to rape incidences. Other effects of violence may be associated with the female genital mutilation, and they are in multiple of numbers. The women who performed the genital mutilations were found t...
