The significance of this topic is to keep an ideal Body Mass Index (BMI) of 18.5-24.9. Any BMI over 24.5 predisposes an individual to serious health risks such as myocardial infarction, hypertension, diabetes mellitus or insipidus, coronary heart disease (CHD), and stroke, among others (Aljuraiban et al. 529). A healthy body weight reduces the chances of developing these ailments.
The main strategies used to maintain healthy body weight are the ingestion of proper diet, healthy lifestyle, and prescription of drugs. A balanced diet has a recommended amount of carbohydrate (CHO), proteins, fats, water, minerals, and vitamins (Soleymani et al. 81). A healthy lifestyle involves aerobic exercise, such as walking, swimming, yoga, and jogging. The prescribed pharmacological agents to maintain a healthy BMI are administration serotonergic and adrenergic agents. Adrenergic agents stimulate central norepinephrine secretion, which is crucial in weight loss. Serotonergic agents induce selective reuptake of serotonin inhibitors that leads to reduced BMI.
