Dignity of Labor
Dignity of labor is defined as a philosophy that the prevailing job types are respected in equal measures and no occupation that is regarded superior. However, an individual’s occupation for livelihood that consists of mental or physical labor is considered to carry more dignity than the occupation that involves more intellect as compared to body. Simply put, dignity of labor implies that all available jobs whether involving physical or even intellect labor must be respected and deserve dignity. In particular, no occupation that should be regarded inferior or even superior (Sehgal). The reason is that each job that is performed with considerable sincerity as well as honesty must be appreciated. With that said, it clear that each individual deserves a right to opt for his or her profession of desire. Therefore, individuals should not be prejudiced or even discriminated because of their occupations.
It is important to comprehend that both manual and intellectual labor is vital. Each labor possesses dignity of its own. However, some individuals think that intellectual labor is superior as compared to manual one. It is time that people need to understand that manual labor is dignified and deserves respect (Sehgal).
