As one engages in sports, various aspects necessary for human developments are nurtured and developed. Sport nourishes both the soul and the physical body. It is termed as one of the essentials in the formulation of an all-around human being. It is described as one of the best engagements that both young and senior citizens can enter to exercise their skills. Sports have been sponsored and developed in various countries due to the benefits that have been associated with this activity. The advantages that arise from sports are invaluable and to some extent immeasurable because they are numerous.
Currently, sports activities are being funded by the government to encourage the talents developments in various countries and also promote image in international levels. Through the ministry of education, these activities have been included in the school curriculum for students to participate in them. By accepting the fact that the society consists of diverse people with different traits, not all people like sports. Also, different people have a different taste for various sports activities. Some would prefer football while others would like different types. To accommodate all this, it is important to campaign for the importance of sports, and this would encourage more people to participate in it. This would facilitate appreciation of sports as part of society.
What makes sports valuable
One of the importance of sports is it health benefits to individuals. Naturally, sports are associated with improvement of health. If the body does not care, it might result in health complications. Scientists have proved that games reduce the calorie value by a high percentage (Multidisciplinary 123). This is very helpful as it reduces the risk of contracting heart attacks and high blood pressure. Sports activities are therefore much associated with good health, and one has to sacrifice to achieve this. Every game is a sacrifice, and one has to be genuine with himself or herself to attend them. For instance, in a golf game, It takes courage and patience as well as the focus to perform well. The training of the game is hard, and one has to be consistent to sustain in the game to get good results. The final outcomes of the sport are so tremendous that the player might fail to accept the final results. In other words, participating in sports brings useful results that improve the health of the individual. Sport can be used as a remedy for some common problems that are experienced by people in the society. From Hastly "sport has been well defined as the overcoming of difficulties simply for the sake of overcoming them."(226). Attachment of sport to health has been supported mainly by scientific facts.
Sport contributes largely to the economy of the country. For many years, the sport has contributed largely to the development of the country's economy. If we take for example football has been a major contributor to the gross domestic product of a state. To finance this sports activity is expensive but the final results are encouraging. As stated by Harly, "Where there are ends apart from the action, it is the nature of the products to be better than the activities."(232). Through this sport, many people have found avenues where they can earn their living. Companies producing sports equipment have also found good business opportunities. This promotes the economy of the country because they pay tax. As it is the norm, most players of the major games known internationally such as football are paid well. They drive the economy as they buy goods and services to sustain themselves. As the law of demand implies, the increase in demand leads to increase in supply. When the participants in the sport are paid, they drive the economy by buying and even paying taxes to the government.
Sport is a source of pleasure to the players as well to the spectators. Any game is enjoyable to the participants as long as they have a passion for it. It is evident from sports such as football. This sports activity has a lot of fans because they enjoy the game itself. The spectators cheer up the players, and they make the sports event live. Though it might be a source of fun, it requires total commitment on the side of players to do enough practice. It is a tough preparation that is needed for good results to be realized. The participants have entirely to overcome many obstacles on the line of their duty like spending much of their time in the field. As Hurka stated, "Playing a game is voluntary attempting to overcome obstacles that are unnecessary."(219). Pleasure obtained from sport can be classified into two broad categories. The first one is on the side of the players. The players have good skills in their respective games and they enjoy doing what they like. It takes time to accumulate necessary knowledge of any game and. Therefore, they are skilled to do their best. The other is on the side of spectators of the game. Other sports activities are done at leisure, without any aim to gain money. This is taken as a way of enjoying. There are sports activities that are cheered by spectators, who bring about pleasure in the field. Spectators attend these activities to make fun and also to cheer their players. The major role of the spectators in any game is to win the game. They have to maintain the required discipline as any game is important. As Peter Rose remarked, "Win or lose we are in the greatest game."(228).
Sports eliminate mind exhaustion. Sports activities are incorporated into school curriculum to enhance the performance of mind of the young children. It has been proved that well-exercised brain can absorb much content in class. The current curriculum in Schools has seen it necessary to include sports activities. There are also competitions organized by the ministry of education to engage students in co-curricular activities. The great way to spend time through running, walking, keeps the students active throughout the day. Integration of these sports activities in school is of great importance to the whole society because it teaches the children good values that are relevant to the real world.
Sports are also important for physical fitness. Physical fitness refers to an admirable size that one enjoys. Sports activities have for long been associated with the burning of high calorific values. Most obese people have a large deposit of fat under their skin and some on the veins and arteries. To reduce this fat content, scientists have proven that this fat can be easily be broken down by periodic sports activities. Reduction in fat content helps one to regain the physical fitness. It requires persistent regular activities to achieve this. As said later any sports activity requires a commitment to achieving the desired results. One has to dare to wake up early in the morning to do the jogging and late evening walking. The pleasure in this activity might not be desirable, but the end results are very encouraging. "If an activity is good, pleasure in it is good, whereas if it’s bad, pleasure in it is bad." Aristotle, (228).
Sports build one's character. The character of the individual especially young people is sharply improved by engaging in relevant sports activities. As it can be seen from various players, they are much disciplined in keeping the rule of the game. For example in golf, the players are firmly held by the norms of the game. One might be playing to gain money, but he or she cannot use a short cut to get the ball into the hole. The...
