Research Project Proposition
Topic: The effectiveness of content differentiation strategies among learners with intellectual disabilities. This topic has been selected because of diverse pedagogical reasons. First, the Department of Education encourages teachers to find better teaching strategies to support learners with learning disabilities. Differentiation is one of the proposed strategies; however, there are diverse differentiation strategies. In this case, content that teachers present to learners should guide differentiation. However, it is important to determine the most effective differentiation strategy for learners with intellectual disabilities to avoid constant trial and error from educators. Also, the determination of the best differentiation strategy will help determine a standard teaching approach for all educators in the country. The recommendations from this study would also suggest educational policies on teaching learners with intellectual disabilities.
The articles that would be vital for this study will focus on various aspects of differentiated instructions. According to Benjamin (2020), differentiated strategies improve equal care in an inclusive classroom. Differentiated strategies are supportive ways of improving learning; however, the practices face challenges of professional preparation, class size, and resources. Similar concerns are also heightened in the article by Ismajli and Imami-Morina (2018), which states that teachers are not focusing on subject contents during differentiation. Besides, the article by Lavania and Nor (2020) will be used in this research because it highlights barriers that implementors of differentiated instructions face.
Determination of the effectiveness in content differentiation will reveal measures of its improvement and indicate the challenges that learners experience. The study results will be applied in special schools through recommended policies and recommend an effective plan that will involve all stakeholders in using content as the strategy of instructional differentiation.
