Introduction and Research Justification
Gas leaks in the oil and gas industry are a constant concern due to their potential environmental and ecological effects, huge financial losses, as well as the human safety element associated with such gas leaks (Opeyemi & Olabisi, 2021; Adegboye, Fung, & Karnik, 2019). According to EIA (2021), natural gas accounts for 34% of the U.S. energy consumption in 2020. Sivathanu (2003), indicates that pipelines are the primary infrastructure used in the delivery of natural gas over more than 400 thousand miles across the United States. It is therefore imperative to develop superior gas leak detection system to guarantee reliability and safety of pipelines.
