Introduction
What will the world look like in the next 80 years? Are we going to be overwhelmed by climate change by the year 2099 or are we going to rise to the challenge? Climate change and global warming have become an international topic of discussion. Many people agree that the series of the acceleration in temperatures is as a result of human activity. Climate change is real and human beings are to blame Berglez and Olausson, (2014).
Despite the awareness to stop the negative impacts of climate, there is still a large percentage of the population that is still in denial about global warming and the urgency of dealing with climate change. Conspiracy theories have emerged due to the campaigns initiative against climate change and the views of the scientist taken lightly as well as being labelled alarmists. The use of a scientific consensus to change the conspiracy theory about global warming is not enough, but the climate changes denial needs to be discussed and also understand the aspect of climate change to be able to achieve progress.
Problem Statement
The people can be said to have divisions between the ‘believers’ and the ‘deniers.’ People are afraid of climate change, and some deny the fact that climate change is real, others don’t know whether to believe or not, how to accept it or even what to think. The issue of climate change has had many debates to understand why the believers find that climate change is taking place and most importantly why people deny the existence and courses of climate change.
The understanding will help to find a solution that will help to stop global warming and educate the people on ways that can help to reduce the drastic changes in climate change. We also need to know the people behind climate change denial effort and why. There will also be an understanding of why 40%of the population in the US has to go with the narrative created by only 3%of the population.
Arguments
Who is behind the climate change denial effort?
* The interests of the industries, the politics of the nations, partisan ideological and the conservative media circles are both the driving force of the climate change denial.
* Sceptical bloggers also spread there narratives on the truth and lack of the truth on the climate changes phenomenon.
* Tobacco industries have initiatives that aim to counter the climate change debate as being a hoax.
* The energy industries have also waged wars against the principles of global warming as they fund campaigns to discredit the scientist of there findings and to pass out false information against global warming.
Firms in Washington such as Heritage Foundation, Cato Institute, Marshall Institute and Koch brothers who fund institutions that propagate the ideology and are part of the endeavor. An estimated $500 million was spent between January 2009 and June 2010 by the utility, coal and coal companies for the support of the opposition congregation in the climate change debate. It is evident that big companies use money and human resource to stop the efforts of the stakeholders in the fights against climate change Lee, Park & Klassen, (2015). The atmosphere can pose a challenge to any group that wants to continue with the fight against climate change that will benefit the future generation..How stakeholders benefit from climate change denial.
* Different stakeholders tend to benefit from the longevity of the denial against climate change. There are financial benefits associated with the denial especially the tobacco and gas companies whose activities do more harm than good to the environment.
* The fossil fuel industries are benefiting a lot and are at the core of the climate changes denial narrative Jean, (2014). The industries make billions of dollars and generate high-profit turnovers and would risk closure from the harsh environmental policies.
* The other reason for the avocations of climate change denial is to stay true to an ideology. The denial campaigns have gained political backing over time and have become part of the prevailing ideology of the Republican. Since the root of the ideology is money, the fossils industries are now backing the political campaigns and providing them with money and therefore creating the culture of climate change denial in the US.
Lobby groups such as American Coalition of Clean Coal Electrical fund anti-climate change policies to protect the industries against harsh environment policies so as to make profits and the industries not to be closed.
