Obesity is increasingly becoming a common concern worldwide. It affects both adults and children, though at varying prevalence rates. In this regard, obesity cannot be considered as a just a cosmetic concern because scientific evidence portrays the condition as a complex disease that is characterized by excessive accumulation of body fat. As a dangerous medical problem, obesity has a tendency of increasing the risk of contracting secondary diseases or health problems associated with an overweight body. These include high blood pressure and heart diseases. It is against this backdrop that the present project seeks to establish whether the distribution of family incomes affects obesity prevalence rates.
Empirical data was collected to inform the findings of the study. It comprised family income distributions by country for the year 2016. This was expressed using the Gini index (CIA World Factbook, n.d.). On the other hand, prevalence of adult obesity in 2016 was considered in this study, which was expressed as a percentage of total population (CIA World Factbook, n.d.). The corresponding data is displayed in the table below.
