Examine the Management Role or Function in an Environment of Uncertainty
This paper describes comprehensively researched information on how uncertainty affects the management functions in the business environment. It is true that uncertainty exhibits itself in all business organizations hence causing obstinate challenges to effectively make management and leadership decisions. All the four functions of management namely; planning, organizing, leading and controlling are affected greatly by various uncertainties resulting within the organization and in its operations. Though, these uncertainties are external to the organization itself. They are not easy to control but proper planning should be done at the initial stages of business organization.

Description of management as a whole and its implementation to business environmentÂ
In businesses and organizations, management is the function used to coordinate the people efforts to achieve the target goals and objectives by efficient and effective use of the available resources. The person responsible for executing management roles is known as the manager. This person is pushed against his/her management functions and roles by different business environment forces resulting from either internally or externally in the organization. The manager is required to learn to deal with such forces while at the workplace so as to execute the daily duties effectively (Richard L. Daft, 2010).
The implementation of management in the business environment encompasses four important management functions. These management functions help in helping the manager accomplish the set business roles and objectives. With these four functions, the manager is able to accurately manipulate and deploy the available human, financial, technological and natural resources. The manager should focus on the four key management functions in order to execute managerial and leadership roles appropriately. These functions are;
Planning: The manager should lay out a specific and strategic outline of steps to be followed in order to comprehensively operate the entire managerial roles and duties.
Controlling: The management team should be able to keep all the plans set moving together.
Organizing: The supportive staff and equipments should move together to support the plans made by the organization.
Leading: The manager should be at forefront to show enthusiasm and vision in order to reach the set plans by the business organization.
Also, in implementing these management functions, the manager should also consider the trends of technology, innovations, globalization and diversity. Technology presents the fastest-moving force potential in management of all the business organizations in the world. It encompasses all forms of technology such as manufacturing, communication and marketing. Due to advancement and unpredictable technological trends, the managers are compelled to make critically thought plans, proper organizational roles, leadership roles and control.
The managers are supposed to be innovative and embrace the current and changing worldwide innovations. This comprises the enactment and integration of new ideas to the management functions. Also, the manager should be keen on changing global cultures and diversity. The manager should embrace diversity and changing global culture.
Description and examples of challenges facing mangers today as characterized by ambiguity, uncertainty, threats or sudden changes in the business
These conditions in a business may exhibit as things we know, things we claim we don’t know, and those we don’t know that we don’t know them. These are the uncertainties, ambiguities and threats. Uncertainty in climate change in an organization can result in several forms (Devine, 2012). These include;
Variation uncertainty: This comes from small influences within the organization. For instance salary disparity among the employees may result to a lot of pressure in the management system hence a challenge to most managers today.
Foreseen Uncertainties: These are understood and identified influences that have tendency of occurring or may fail to occur. This imposes challenge to risk management among the managers.
Unforeseen uncertainty: This has no contingency plan as it occurs unnoticed. This forms a big challenge to managers as it makes it difficult to strategize job approach platform.
Chaos: This compels the managers to establish strict rules and regulations within the organization.
The following challenges are notable in all the managers today due to theses uncertainties, ambiguity, business changes and threats. They include:
Strategy resolution: It is very hard to prospect the future resolutions of the business if operating at potentially volatile and uncertain environment.
Strategy execution: The chaos, internal politics, unpredicted changes, company flaws and hidden negative forces may lead to unwanted strategy execution hence causing unexpected business output.
Risk management: This comprise of assessment of risks resulting in the organization so as to economically and financially control and monitor input resources. Therefore, with these conditions of uncertainty and ambiguity or unpredictable business treats it will be difficult to establish the correct control and monitoring of these business inputs.
Threat/change management: Due to influence of these conditions, it will be difficulty to provide the desired strategic leadership that is conventional in change management programmes in the business environment.
Description of manager’s skills to successfully exist against these conditions (ambiguity, uncertainty, threats or sudden changes in the business).
The managers need the following management skills in order to exist despite the ambiguity, uncertainty, threats or sudden changes in businesses and organizations (Swinton, 2005);
Excellent Interpersonal skills: Despite these management threats, the manager will establish successful management execution if he/she sets up proper communication and motivation method within the organization and especially in the management team. The manager is supposed to delegate duties and mentor the staff in line with the set business plans, objectives and goals.
Outstanding Conceptual skills: The manager should have proper skills to analyze and resolve complex situations occurring in the business environment despite uncertainty, ambiguity or any changes in the management system. The manager should put in consideration all the issues raised in the management level and analyze them appropriately before making paramount decisions.
Accurate Diagnostic skills: The manager should be accurate in responding to the situations despite the ambiguity, uncertainty or threats occurring in the business. The manager should have precise visualization of what is supposed to be doe in order to establish the right corrective measures prior o challenges happening in the business environment.
Competitive Leadership skills: The manager should have excellent and competent leadership qualifications in order to provide the proper guidance to the organizational staff and establish the right teamwork roles.
Right technical expertise: The manager should have the right technical know-how in order to establish the correct diagnostic measures to technical problems. Despite the presence of uncertainty or threats in the organization, all the machine operations will be functional.
Proper Political power/influence: The manager should possess the right connections and political influence to counteract any political pressure that may face the organization. Proper political influence leads to establishing strong political power base and the organization benefits from most governmental incentives. This helps in strengthening the business operations always despite any external pressure and internal challenges.
The illustration of manager’s qualities to exist despite these conditions in the business environment
The managers need the following management qualities in order to exist despite the ambiguity, uncertainty, threats or sudden changes in businesses and organizations;
Long-term vision of the organization or company: If the manager has the vision to achieve the stated goals and objectives despite what comes between as a challenge like uncertainty, threats or ambiguity, he/she will not be swayed until the set targets are achieved.
Ability to effectively establish communication with anyone in the organizational workforce (from top to bottom staff): The manager should have the quality of ensuring that the entire workforce has the proper communication mechanism among themselves. This establishes trust and transparency among the staff.
Strong patience in problem solving or dealing with immerging problems: the manager should have strong patience in solving the emerging problems. Patience helps the manager establish the right thinking and judgment in solving the problems despite uncertainties.
Good communication skills/ fluency in speech: This give the manager an upper-hand in elaborating what is o be done in order to reach to a decisive solution. The essence of uncertainties does not affect the paramount decisions made after proper elaboration of the diagnosis established and decisions made to solve these problems.
