Total Quality Management entails a continuous procedure in an organization aimed at clearing all errors from their manufacturing processes as well as reorganizing their supply chain management. This process also aims at ensuring that the customer experience and satisfaction are of fundamental standards. TQM process involves placing relevant mechanisms in place to ensure that the organizational personnel are up to date with the various advancements within their field of operation. Concerned parties involved in the organizational production process are ensuring the required quality of the overall final products and services is achieved. The management of an organization may also consider total quality management as an organization operations strategy into brings about the success of the business in the long term through various approaches such as the consumer satisfaction. In line with the total quality management, all the personnel in an organization are required to operate within guidelines that improve the final products and serves of the firm as well as the improving their working culture (Hill, 2013).
Total quality management is among the various management practices in a firm employed to make sure the organization meets its customer’s requirements consistently. It strongly focuses on the random checks and measurements as well as the controls of the organizational operations to maintain continuous improvements within the organization. The management ensures that the set organizational objectives and strategies are met and followed respectively as well as the various decisions by the top management that may bring about an improvement in the operations are well implemented. More so, total quality management describes the right cultures and attitudes within the organization that is essential in providing the customers with products and services that satisfy their needs. It is through customer satisfaction that the organization can retain its customers thereby gaining a competitive advantage in their industry of operation. It can also pave a way for the long-term success of the organization.
Research reveals that Japan had the capability of producing goods of high quality and at a competitive cost in the early 1980s. This position, therefore, created stiff competition to the opponents, the developed countries from American and Europe, and weakened their economies as a result. Each country had to struggle to produce better quality products that could be competitive in the market. The continuous efforts to produce products of better quality triggered organizations to reexamine their techniques of production. The exercise resulted in the idea of total quality management and how it could be successfully implemented within an organization. William Deming was credited with developing this idea. TQM became a comprehensive approach to various organizational managements that sort to improve its products and services quality (Ishikawa, 2011). Several companies were convinced that total quality management brought about the long-term success of their company operations and implemented it successfully. Companies such as Toyota, Motorola, and the Phillips implemented the TQM successfully. For a successful implementation exercise, the management had to work hand in hand with the organization employees in to bring about a continuous improvement. More so, they aimed to achieve a continuous improvement in their production lines by cutting down their losses through getting rid of wasteful practices.
Total quality management brings together the various organizational functions such as finance, marketing, design, and production with the primary goal f being able to meet the needs of the customers as well as the set objectives of the organization. The organization must therefore continuously endeavor in featuring in the experience, knowledge, and skills of its employees. It adapts the objective of doing the right things at the right time and doing so every time. Initially, total quality management was applicable in the manufacturing industry but this knowledge and management tools has now been incorporated into other public sector organizations as well. Total quality management brings about a new commitment to the organization from both the management and employees of the firm. The development cycle times, products and service costs are also reduced. The firm more so sees through to the implementation of relevant systems that facilitate improvement as well as the staff empowerment and maximum involvement. Team building is also emphasized to bring about innovations in the organization thereby creation in a continuous improvement business environment.
In a competitive rivalry, the capability and the number of competitors in the industry is what matters. In cases where the number of competitors in the industry is too large, then the company/firm is likely to have less power in the area within which it operates. Total quality management enables an organization to come with various strategies that allow the firms undertake ventures and relative production measures that no other firm can make to induce a tremendous strength in the market. One critical issue in quality management is on capacity planning. This is the process where a company identifies and determines the overall production capacity it needs to meet in order meet the demands of their customers in the market. This can be achieved by considering its facilities, products, and services and the Human Resource factor in the Corporation. An organization can employ both the skilled labor and low-skilled employees, persons who need supplemental income and students who need skills and experiences in their carriers. Total quality management will ensure an efficient supply chain management. This results in an efficient flow of information and materials amongst consumers, suppliers, and the manufacturers. Effective supply chain management, therefore, provides the company with sustainable competitive advantage and helps it become dominant in the global market.
Total quality management represents the initiatives by a business to meet its customer’s expectations while improving the quality of their operations in the production stages. It aims at ensuring perfect management of the business resources to allow for an efficient production process with final quality products. An organization can ensure this by providing its production factories with relevant information as per the customer demands and tastes. It can as well emphasize on aspects of the business such as satisfying their customers, ensuring all the employees produce their best and creating room for continuous improvement into the business. Implementing this strategy enables a business counter check on its cost efficiency and gain a competitive advantage in the industry within which it operates (Hyde, 2012).
Organizational, the architectural model, is emphasized in total quality management. It entails the structure and the form in which an individual business or firm operates. Effective organizational, architectural models can be characterized by their simplicity, flexibility, reliability, and acceptability. It aims at sending new quality products to several markets and still embarking mostly on innovation. The strategy also incorporates different programs for production of products that people mostly seek interest in them. The management should pay attention to various trends around the globe to get equipped with relevant knowledge of the market. The organization, therefore, end up being a low-cost provider of different products and services as some products become easily affordable leading to maximum satisfaction to business customers.
TQM is more concerned with all operations of the organization and their improvement. It begins with strategic planning, decision-making all the way up to the execution of the strategic plans of the organization. It also enables reduce the probability of mistakes within the production of final products and the services offered. This continuous improvement deals with both improving the results as well as improving organizational capabilities of maintain high-quality production.
