The type of Radiations Exploited in Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear medicine as a branch of medical specialty mostly uses radiations that offer diagnostic information regarding the functioning of patients' body organs (World Nuclear Association, 2018). Noticeably, radioisotopes have been the primary type of radiations used in contemporary clinical practices to diagnose patients. These coupled with other imagining devices catalog gamma rays are discharged within the body, and thus study the active processes in the patient's body (World Nuclear Association, 2018). By using radiopharmaceuticals in the disease diagnosis, a radioactive dose is administered to a patient, and the subsequent body reaction is studied using an X-ray computed tomography. The diagnostic procedure then uses radioactive tracers that release gamma rays to analyze certain psychological processes. In a while, the initial technique uses the single photons identified by a gamma camera to form an image based on the spots where the gamma radiations are emitted. Lastly, the image is enhanced using a computer to observe health anomalies within the patient's body.
