Criminology SARA Plan on Home Burglary Victimization in Atlanta (Term Paper Sample)

Instructions:

The prevalence of home burglary in atlanta has increased over the past century, but has remained relatively low when compared to other forms of property crime. There are a variety of reasons for this, including the high opportunity cost of spending time and resources protecting property in a home burglary. This work aims to improve the ability to identify, substantiate and combat home burglary, which will in turn improve the ability to produce meaningful data about the impact of home burglary on victims.

Criminology SARA Plan on Home Burglary Victimization in Atlanta
Federal police in the United States are committed to reducing home burglary victimization by using statistical analysis to crime numbers and developing approaches to construct a model of household burglary occurrences (Borrion et al., 2020). As described by Semenza, Griffiths & Stansfield (2022), home invasions in Atlanta have been on the rise despite the fact that most individuals don`t believe they will face such incidents. Hence, there is need to address the problem as well as help residents understand the intensity of the matter. In order to meet this objective, the police department must have the tools necessary to establish evidence-based strategies for reducing home burglary-related crimes and disruption. Due to the SARA (scanning, analysis, response, and assessment) model, which has been widely implemented around the world, this paper will examine the various methods for discovering and understanding burglary-related issues, with the goal of identifying and reducing the likelihood of future residential burglaries. There are several ways to assess a burglary prevention's success, including qualitative inquiries, experimental study methods, and community - based participatory studies as this study illustrates.
Nature of the Problem
Through time and geography, as well as the persons who are engaged in a specific offence, burglary-related difficulties may be addressed.  To better understand how common domestic burglary is in a region, the police have employed the "Community, Harmful, Expectation, Events, Recurring, and Similarity" approach. An appropriate definition of an issue may be achieved by replying to aspects such as who is affected, what harm has been caused, what are aspirations to address this specific issue, sorts of occurrences that have contributed to this factor, and the reasons for their resemblance (Wenger, 2019). According to information gleaned from Western Australian police files, there were 229 burglaries in the Atlanta in 2020-2021comprising 281 instances of residential burglary and 40 instances of non-residential burglary (House & Neyroud, 2018). Most of the data gathered from the respondents with Atlanta residents suggests that the majority of incidents involved homes and numerous units in the same structure. In the second approach of the SARA strategy, "Analyzing the problem," the aim is to discover and comprehend the core causes of home burglary victimization. Although domestic burglary is an issue, the main cause might be narcotics, poverty, or a low level of education and the presence of criminal options. In addition, the Atlanta Police Department has concentrated on the "issue analysis triangle" to analyze the high-crime areas in the Atlanta residential area (Rothstein, 2020). Burglary statistics from Atlanta have revealed a number of reasons why certain houses have been targeted by criminals in the area. There were no cars in the driveway, indicating that the home was uninhabited or deserted, and no lamps were on indoor or outdoor at the moment of the attack, all of which point to a vacated or uninhabited state (Wenger, 2019). Advantaged neighborhoods are more likely to have jewels and costly objects on exhibit in their windows, as per police records (Semenza, Griffiths & Stansfield, 2022). The third phase in designing an integrated solution to these home invasion concerns has been emphasized by the government after examining the prospective difficulties and uncovering the main causal factors.
Proposed Response
The third section of the SARA procedure has focused on implementing a solution to the Atlanta area breaking and entering crime after assessing the issue. Disc locks were proven to be the most powerful countermeasure against home invasions in many studies conducted in Texas. The use of disc locks in Houston has been shown to be the most effective way to limit the risk of break-ins. This reaction was implemented at several self-storage facility test sites by the Texas Police Dept. Further investigations indicated that the amount of reported larceny incidents decreased by 60 percent following the implementation of disc locks (Wheeler & Reuter, 2021). For the same reasons, the Atlanta Police Department has chosen to place disc locks in high-crime areas such as homes or businesses where break-ins have been documented most frequently.
More solar-powered and motion-activated lights have been installed around the site that is most likely to be attacked for theft by the Atlanta police department. Improved lighting has been shown to deter future criminals by raising the likelihood that they would be spotted during a break-in. The evidence from British assessment surveys suggests a link between better street lighting and a decline in burglaries. In addition, studies have shown that increasing the visibility around a house reduces burglary incidents by around 35% (Wheeler & Reuter, 2021). To combat nighttime burglary in Atlanta, the city's police force has installed new motion-activated lighting around homes and businesses.
Structured surveillance has been determined to be the most efficient method for decreasing and deterring burglary-related offences in many studies conducted in the United Kingdom (House & Neyroud, 2018). The use of Surveillance cameras for college parking surveillance in England has been shown to have a good impact on lowering robberies and other offences. For instance, a significant drop in crimes like burglary and destruction of private property was documented when cameras were installed for official use in the core of three distinct towns in Texas (Wheeler & Reuter, 2021). Citizens in Atlanta have also been urged by the law enforcement agency to enhance formal and informal security measures around any properties or homes where burglaries have been recorded. Burglary incidents can be reduced by combining Surveillance cameras with additional strategies such as proper landscaping and gardening.
Atlanta's police force also recommends that people use alloy bars, door locks, and premium toughened to lock their gates. Atlanta residents are also urged by police to use open-style building in order to keep out trespassers and adequately define the area's boundaries. It has also offered some suggestions on how to maintain landscape on a frequent basis, such as cutting trees and bushes away from entryways. These suggestions can help to improve the property's natural security (Rothstein, 2020). In their strategy to reduce crime, residents in Ireland used the extraordinary case of planting and hedging. The Ireland has put a lot of effort into screening fences with prickly bushes in order to keep off trespassers. Additionally, Atlanta police have advised homeowners to use suitable plants and frequent tree and shrub pruning to keep the area open and visible to passersby. As required in SARA's model, a criminal offense must be addressed before an assessment may take place. After implementing a community policing strategy, a team of experts must conduct an evaluation of the results and collect evidence to support their findings. When it comes to minimizing burglary victimization, the Atlanta police department has concentrated on both pre / post qualitative and quantitative data. Additi
