When people go through stressful situations, there happens to be a rise in the amount of neurotransmitters that assists in the fight against stress. Criminologists believe that through genetics it is possible to determine who commits a crime (Lilly, Cullen, & Ball, 2011).
Evidence pertaining to the biological/genetic contributors to self-control

Genetics also determines given levels of self control. According to Pratt, Turner & Piquero, (2004), improper child rearing procedures may lead to low self-control behavior. . This goes to show that self control has a link to genetic/biological components. Research indicates that inheritance of some criminal behavior may indeed have some genetic effects. Hyperactivity disorder affects self control in a number of ways. This also means that some body types are associated with certain lifestyles. An individual’s physical structure can easily determine the kind of crime he will commit (Beaver, 2013).
Is Parental Socialization the only cause of variation in self-control?
Pratt, Turner & Piquero, (2004) believe that when an individual has low self control, this deficiency can be traced back to lack of it in early childhood. Low self control is an indication of poor discipline and lack of enough nurturance and parental guidance. Self-control can be acquired through socialization where lack of it indicates low-self control. Beaver, (2013) acknowledges that parents have been blamed as the main causes of low self control due to poor childbearing.
