Abstract
In gauging teenage behavior, one of the social factors investigated is the playing of video games. Most teenagers choose video games as their favorite activity. However, the relationship between teenage behavior, school performance, and video games have incited studies on the same. The questions asked is whether video games are an influencing factor in teenagers’ aggressive behaviors, school performance, and hostility. The aim of the research first is to identify the behaviors exhibited by the teenagers that play video games. Secondly, to try and identify or examine whether an association exists between playing video games and school grades, hostility, physical fights involvement, and arguments with teachers. Video games can control the point of view held by the players on their traits. According to Hasan, Bиgue & Bushman (2012), despite video games not controlling the dominant behavior of players, the study shows that more aggression can be experienced in male teenagers that use a chunk of their free time spells in gaming. Therefore, video games influence teenagers behavior in a significant way but do not affect their school performance.
Introduction
Video games have captured the attention of most teenagers. Majority of the video games companies have prevailed in the present era while employing innovative individuals that innovatively design the games. The teenagers have become a target group for such companies, and school decision makers and parents have raised the red flags as to whether these games have become hazardous. The reason for teenage attraction towards these games can be attributed to new features of the technology that are fun and amusing (Exelmans, Custers & Van den Bulck, 2015).
