Feminism Today: Its Relevance, Views, and Future
Feminism is still relevant despite its ever-changing, evolving, and oftentimes irrational views in this modern world. This strong ideology has brought women together since time immemorial and still does even up to this day. Notwithstanding today’s acknowledgment and even adaptation of new and extreme interpretations of modern waves of feminism, its core value, and essence remain.
Several authors argue and agree that the modern version of feminism turned slightly into a radical ideology (Le n.p) Although women’s clamors are not just petty noises but a product of long-decade repressed and hidden voices, it is sometimes used as an avenue to spread hostility towards others who disagree. This aggression has led to violence and misinformation about what feminist activism is all about. In addition, Pew Research Center Org reported that many women in the U.S. see feminism today not only as empowering but also polarizing (Barroso n.p). This goes to show how feminism tends to deviate radically from its origins although not totally to the point of abolishing its relevance in the present time.
Young women view feminism still as a driving force for women's empowerment and for breaking gender stereotypes established by the old patriarchal system. However, the new generation of women, albeit feminist or not, might have the misconception that feminist ideals and goals are already accomplished. This is because of their thinking that the bold and brave women who fearlessly paved the way have mitigated the fight against women’s rights. Yet the real world says otherwise as the intensity of the battle never decreased as time went by.
As much as the struggles continue, it is evident that young women now have strong convictions of who they are without fear of societal judgment. Global campaigns such as the #MeToo movement and Women’s March hold much value and significan...
