Introduction
Personality describes the dynamic organization of the psychophysical systems within an individual which determine his or her characteristics, thoughts, patterns or behaviour. It is simply the blend of features that makes every individual unique. According to the idiographic view, every individual is assumed to have unique psychological systems in that some characteristics can only be found in on person only. It, therefore, suggest that we cannot compare human individuals as each owns unique characteristics. The nomothetic view, on the other hand, argues that people can be distinguished as all traits encompass the same psychological meanings among all individuals (Row, 2011).
Normally personality psychologists have a significant interest in understanding the unique characters and the similarities among people. According to Engler (2014), personality tends to be consistent and organized and in as much as it is psychological, personality is affected by biological factors too. The biological theories state that genetics entirely influence personality. For instance, extroverts are believed to have a lower cortical arousal which makes them search for exciting experiences. The behavioural theories, on the other hand, suggest that personality is a result of the interaction between a person and his or her environment. The psychodynamics theorists argue that it is the unconscious mind and the experiences of childhood that determine a person’s personality. The failure to meet a child’s needs forms a personality trait that cannot be altered later in their lives.
According to the psychodynamics theory, an individual personality has three components the ego, the superego and the id, which interact to moderates the person's personality and reality (Engler, 2014). The trait theory argues that an individual’s personality is a combination of vast traits, and one of the examples of the trait theories is the five-factor theory of personality.
The commonly known personality traits that reflect the enormous differences amongst individuals include extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability and openness to experience. Being an outgoing and confident person, I believe I possess the last trait which entails being open to new experiences and ideas (Eysenck, 2012). The paper gives detailed information about people with the openness to new experience trait and outlines their characteristics. The paper further discusses how these individuals interact with others in their workplaces and how their characteristics relate to genetics.
The Jung Typology Test
The Jung Typology Test is a free online personality test that uses Isabel Briggs Myers’ and Carl Jung’s theory in explaining personality. The test reveals 16 different personality traits and allows an individual discover their personality so that they practice things that suit their character (Row, 2011). The openness to new experience character substantially applies to my personal life as I am an individual with high confidence and self-belief. The character trait is characterized by remarkable entrepreneurial capability, excellent interpersonal skills, and a courageous nature. I am warm and affectionate and I value relationships, which allows interactions and implementation of new ideas as different individuals have different capabilities. I have a tremendously capacity and power to influence and win others due to my exceptional interpersonal skills and salesmanship. My social and jovial nature allow me to interact freely with my colleagues at work as they find me charming, which permits the exchange of experiences and ideas.
I have a high sense of responsibility and regard myself highly always, as I believe I can achieve each and everything I desire. I believe in my potential, and I work smart to achieve my set goals. I embrace changes as I believe that change is the basis for doing things differently which guarantees achievement. I always support and participate in innovative projects as I think new ideas boost effectiveness especially in the workplace (Eysenck, 2012). I believe nothing is unachievable, provided one stays committed and consistently works towards achieving it. I understand that we don’t meet our targets always and being an individual with a strong nature, I always gather the courage to get back up when I fail and keep moving forward. Being social and outgoing does not subject me to being dependent on others approval so that to proceed, rather I keep doing what I have set myself to do and rarely do I entertain destructions.
