1.0 Introduction
Discrimination is real especially in the process of employment in all nations. This community vice takes place most frequent than as thought because very few cases get reported to the relevant bodies. This has led to social issues such as gender based in equalities where maybe the male or the female gender feels left out (Njanic 2003). The worst part is when a certain group is neglected or rejected due to their sexual based orientation. In the recent times we have seen the increase in gender based violence which has sprouted as a result of gender discrimination. This happens in regions whereby the women are seen to the weaker gender which deserves no representation (Willies 2010). Such discriminatory decisions have resulted to low economic growth especially in the developing nations. This is so because the women are not given the chance to play their part in the governance of their countries. This discrimination has led to the over domination of the male gender in the employment sector despite their poor performances which have led to slow economic growth of the countries.
The European Union has been on the forefront this vice in the region in order to ensure equal opportunity for all the people. The major driving force in this mission is to foster economic growth in the developing economies through inclusion and equal representation in all areas of governance (Willies 2010) . The EU has made it clear of its vision to ensure that every person’s rights are protected and respected irrespective of their race, colour, gender and sexual orientation. This strategy is aimed at improving the productivity of the people in the workplaces resulting from freedom of expression and an exquisite representation.
2.1 Reasons why EU set up the Anti-discriminatory Measures
To promote equality for all. In major economies of the world today the number of women holding the top positions in governments and other political seats is very low. This has largely been blamed on the gender based discrimination whereby the woman is seen to be less effective in their duties (Gabriele 2011). This vice has been further fueled by some retrogressive cultures in the developing nations where a girl child should not get proper education. So many a times we have heard of young girls being married off to some old men in exchange for a few herds of cattle. Such diminutive cultures have led to a great gap of inequality in terms of gender based representation (Njanic 2003). The men are said to have their cake and eat it all. The EU embarked on a noble mission to educate the communities of the world of the importance of equal representation without any form of discrimination in order to foster economic growth (Davies 2004). The EU has established several initiatives to empower the less marginalized people in the communities from all walks of life. Both men and women in various locations experience employment discrimination but the women are the hard hit (Willies 2010). The EU in conjunction with other bodies has development the antidiscrimination protocol which states that all people are equal irrespective of the race or sexual orientation.
To promote easy access to education. Education is plays a major role in the economic development of a country (Gabriele 2011). Through the education system a country gains a more resourceful workforce which competitive enough to ensure maximum utilization of resources for the benefits of all. In developing nations the EU has several education projects which are geared towards the transformation of the local societies into great managers (Davies 2004). The most renowned projects include the set-up of rescue centers for girls running away from the communities which practice female genital mutilations. This center educates the local people of the dangers of the vice to refrain from it. The major driving force to these projects is that an educated woman is an educated society (Davies 2004). The antidiscrimination measures in the education industry are meant empower the marginalized people to embrace education. It is through education that the communities are able to appreciate the cultural diversity in their nations and build their strengths from it. This further reduces the chances for discrimination within the society.
Ease access to healthcare. In the wake of chronic diseases including cancer and HIV AIDs majority of the people in the world today live in fear of disclosing their status for fear of discrimination. The HIV AIDs case is the most elaborate whereby the victims live in denial without even visiting the clinics for diagnosis and medication after forth (Willies 2010). The EU policy is to maintain all the records of all patients in a confidential manner to avoid the stigma associated with publicity of one’s medical condition. There are other minority groups such as the gays and lesbians which are protected under the EU laws (Chopin & Niessen 2008). We have seen dehumanizing laws put in place in some of the developing nations to punish such groups. This inflicts stigma on the people with such orientations and the EU has put the interest of every person first (Callender & Meenan 2004). The U laws demands for the respect of human rights of every individual no matter their sex, color and race. This policy is aimed at encouraging every member of such group to come out and receive medical attention. The HIV infections have been prevalent to the gay community and this policy encourages them to seek medication without fear of discrimination. This is in line with the global mission to control the number of new HIV infections by 2050.
The same sex couples have overtime been shunned and harassed while going for their medical. They undergo nasty experiences such as publicizing the patients’ health status and even refusal to provide the services to such couples. The same sex couples are also unable to access insurance covers because they are not recognized by law in many countries (Willies 2010). The EU policy addresses such issues to reduce the levels of stigmatization and promote access to healthcare. This policy addresses the transgender issues in order to ensure every person is able to receive humane medical attention like any other person.
Social security. The employers in all sectors of the economy are required to make an employee contribution to the pension scheme. This money is given to the employee upon retirement in order to be able to adjust comfortably to the next phase of life (Gabriele 2011). This system has however been discriminatory against the same sex couples because they are not legally recognized under the law. Such discrimination in employment is very unfair to the employees affected and demoralizes them leading to low output by the employee. There court precedence to the rights of the same sex couples and rights should not be violent and EU requires that every person has his right to choose the most suited partner (Njanic 2003). Marriage is a personal issue which must be respected by all parties in the employment industry in order to increase the levels of productivity while taking the interest of each person at heart.
To ensure equality in utilization of public and private property. This has been a major bone of contention whereby the same sex couples have been denied entry into public places such as bars and restaurants, no rooms for the same sex couples and write off the discounts in major products to enjoy by the couple (Isabelle 2010). The EU has set up the relevant legal structures with the member countries to fight the menace in quest for economic prosperity and equality for all the citizens.
2.2 Effectiveness of the Strategies
The EU in conjunction with other international human rights societies has clearly set out policies to govern the service delivery in the employment sector without discrimination.
