Banks are the most important elements of financial systems that are crucial for the economic growth of any country and these financial systems need to be efficient enough to deliver their mandate with the support provided by information technology. The banking industry like the other economically dependent industries world over has experienced various technology/computing regimes over the last decades and continue to face the pressure of adapting to newer and better computing slants like the mainframe and cloud computing. It is acceptable that mainframe and Cloud computing symbolize the prospect transformational phase in computing (Linthicum, 2018). Years back, the mainframe period initiated computing era that took almost 20 years and ultimately resulting in the server/client period with the enterprises then localizing more staff in branch workplaces a phenomenon that lead to Internet computing. Currently, banking enterprises find themselves in the midst of another transformation which is the shift to mainframe and cloud computing to handle complex financial transactions and curb security threats that may result from other operational approaches.
