FINAL EXAM PART 1 Name your MS Word tutorial file as “Final_Part 1_lastname_firstname” Name your MS Excel data file as “Final_Part 1_lastname_firstname”
The purpose of this assignment is for you to practice an in‐depth understanding of a cloud based business intelligence and analytics solution, and to practice how to convert data to information and then to knowledge, and define learning and knowledge objectives for others’ learning.
You will need to use a new data set, create predictions, explorations and assembled views, analyze the results and propose some innovative ideas. It is very important that you should demonstrate your creative thinking and innovative ideas.
Tool will be used IBM Watson Analytics 1. Understanding Smart City Concepts Do brief research about “smart city” and “smart planet” ideas, projects, initiatives, case studies etc. You are welcome to review the following websites and others: http://people4smartercities.com/ http://www.fastcoexist.com/3021592/the-10-smartest-cities-in-north-america https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcxdgP20hZA http://asmarterplanet.com/studentsfor/about http://www.fastcoexist.com/1680538/what-exactly-is-a-smart-city https://www.youtube.com/user/SmarterCities?v=vZl15VmVXSw http://www.ibm.com/smarterplanet/us/en/?ca=v_smarterplanet Review the examples at http://dupress.com/articles/sensor-enabled-world-interactive/?top=9 Understand innovation as a problem solving mechanism http://www.forbes.com/sites/larrymyler/2014/06/13/innovation-is-problem-solving-and-awhole-lot-more/
Review and selection of a data set Select a new data set (this data set will be very different (industry, type, amount etc.) than the one that you or classmates used in their assignments and projects). This data set should not have been stored and used in the IBM Watson Analytics in the past.
You can pick one of the smart city/planet areas (e.g. health, traffic, water, energy) and find a relevant data set in “List of open datasets” OR Get a dataset from an external location and think about your problem/opportunity scenario that is related to your data set
Provide the following information at the discussion board titled “Chosen Data Sets by Students for Final Exam 1” This data set  needs to be different (industry, type, amount etc.) than the one that you or classmates used in their assignments and projects.  should not have been stored and used in the IBM Watson Analytics in the past (do not use any existing data sets from IBM Watson blogs etc.)  needs to be different data set for each person for the final exam 1. To reduce any issues about using the same data set for the final exam 1, please post the following information about your data set. IBM Watson Analytics
Question 1.1 – Learning Objectives
1 Career: The whole process will expose students and professionals to how IBM Watson Analytics can be used in the discovery of knowledge from wealth accounting data provided by the World Bank. The measurement despite being new is very critical to contemporary policymakers in International financial institutions who will be in a position to determine threats to economic growth, development and sustainability in their member countries.
2 Education: An academic and professional insight on the use of Big Data analytics in obtaining knowledge from large datasets is obtained. Decisions are thus made real-time based on reliable artificial intelligence. Such learners are exposed to crucial decision making skills and insight derivations by leveraging IBM Watson Analytics that has been developed and tried by professionals in computing. Working on such a large dataset with over 200 countries exposes one to a global view of things and expanded decision making.
3 Big Data usage: The researcher is can establish global, regional, and local trends based on the wealth sustainability of countries. The IBM Watson Analytics tool allows comparison of wealth data from numerous countries using different attributes making it easy to come up with meaningful conclusions without having to strain a lot in understanding the vast volume of countries’ financial data.
Question 1.2 - Scenario
Wealth accounting knowledge from Big Data analytics, in this case IBM Watson Analytics remains an indispensable decision making tool for policymakers who a charged with the responsibility of understanding international trade. Such policymakers have a role to play in ensuring that they can avert their countries from financial doom. Their decisions will affect crucial local policies which may save or harm their country. The World Bank usually funds poor countries. From such data, the World Bank knows how much to give out and what to expect from a country. Big data analysis helps not only in knowledge discovery but can also be used in predictions. The prediction part makes decision making and policy implementation easier and objective. A country may be performing well economically. However, such performance may not be a true indication of what will happen in the future, in which case wealth accounting comes handy. Use of wealth accounting data in Big Data analytics makes prediction even easier. Analysis may spell that despite a desirable current economic status, the country is headed to economic doom unless interventions are put in place. Several attributes are considered in the analysis making the prediction quite sustainable and credible.
Question 1.3 – Application
The information is crucial for the World Bank’s and policymakers in its member countries to understand their sustainability status as far as poverty and economic growth are concerned before the situation goes haywire. An earlier discovery can be quite pivotal in putting economic measures in place to salvage the situation. Wealth data indicators capture human development and economic growth priorities making it easier to determine who and when to give out financial funding. Despite showing annual economic growths, use of wealth data analytics can really show that a country is depleting their wealth which is a more sustainable look on the situation compared to Gross Domestic Product. Such decision will help policymakers to help their countries plan and focus well for sustainable economic growth. Wealth accounting provides an important to supplement to macroeconomic measures of growth. Inclusion of human, social capital, physical capital, and natural resources makes wealth accounting more credible, reliable, and reasonable in the long-term as the indicator clearly shows sustainability. Questions that can be asked include: 1) How do countries compare with each other in terms of sustainability? 2) Why is GDP not a sufficient measure of sustainability? 3) What sho...
