Technology has revolutionized the way people interact and most importantly bridged the gap caused by geographical barriers. The most recent technology that has changed human lives is telecommunication. The advent of internet has increased socialization of people and the way business is currently done. Different social media platforms that have contributed to the efficient communication include Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram. The mobility and efficiency brought by the invention of mobile phones can also not be forgotten while discussing technology. Internet has brought interaction of people from different backgrounds making the world to be a global village. It has revolutionized the way people learn. For instance, colleges and universities have adopted online learning where one can take a course away from college environs. This has increased literacy in the world. Internet has also improved interaction among people related and working away from one another. The social media platforms have made it easier for those related together and divided by geographic distance or work to share pictures and communicate on a daily basis (Rainie).
Internet has also made those related together to support one another financially despite the gap due to geographic locations. People are able to send and receive money through online money transfers. Internet has also availed online family management materials that people can download and learn how to manage their marriages, children and improve their daily living standards. Internet has also had negative impacts on the relationships of people. Facebook and instagram charts have broken marriages in instances where one partner fears for being cheated on. The attention towards closely related partners has been jeopardized since instead of sharing with the family, people spend their time in social network interacting with strange people. The advent of internet has also infringed people’s privacy rights. This has happened to celebrities having their personal or family lives exposed in the public domain. This has broken marriages of such celebrities’ marriage lives (Gigler).
The benefits of technology to people’s lives are unquantifiable. It has improved the way people communicate, for instance video conferencing and mobile phone inventions have bridged the gap of distance. Mobile money transfers and online financial services such as online banking have made it efficient to improve the living standards of people. The use of a highly developed transport systems comprising modern technology, have promoted business interactions thus improving people’s ways of life. The modern gaming systems and invention of smart television systems have improved the entertainment industry in the world. The initial cost of installing and using internet services have drastically reduced making the technology spread all over the world. People spend a very meager amount of money in their daily use of internet; this is relatively cheaper as compared to the traditional methods of communication (Evans).
