Past studies have focused on education performance however; studies on quality accommodation are unknown. The purpose of our study is to examine the effect of high population of students on quality of accommodation. The specific objectives of the study are to determine the effect of number of students on quality and to determine the effect of growth patterns of students on quality. The study aims to incorporate the Malthusian theory, which assists in application of population controls perspective. The research design utilized is the case study design, which will guide in in-depth investigation of the problem. Maseno University is the identified area of study with a target population of 2000 students, which represents number of students registered for the second semester of 2015. Kothari’s formula helped to come up with a sample size of 200. Random sampling and stratified sampling techniques will help to identify respondents to use for the research. Both Primary and secondary data sources will facilitate the research by providing necessary information regarding the research, quantitative data will assist in gathering numerical data. Data collection procedures to aid our research will be primary data collection that will involve administering questionnaires, direct and indirect observation and secondary data collection, which will involve collecting data from, documents and records from the hostel department. Data collection instruments will include self-administered questionnaires to the students and direct and indirect observation. Reliability tests for our instruments will be conducted using Cronbach’s alpha co-efficient 0.7 and validity tests will be done using expert review. Descriptive statistics will be used to analyze the first objective and inferential statistics will be used to analyze the second objective. We will present our data using tables, graphs, and photos. Information gathered from this research will improve quality of education as well as spur economic growth of Maseno area.
