the biological versus environmental origins of psychopathy (Thesis Proposal Sample)

Instructions:
The task was a proposal for a research intending to investigate whether psychopathy has biological or environmental cause. It was to seek to find out whether psychopathic traits are genetically inherited or acquired from the environment they find themselves in. To carry out the proposal properly, an abstract, introduction, methodology, result, and conclusion section were incorporated in the proposal in addition, findings from different studies were analyzed for the investigation. source..

Research Proposal Name: Affiliation: Date: Research Proposal Abstract Psychopathy has been seen as a disease with biological roots in a large body of literature. According to the findings of this study, genetic and neurobiological variations are thought to underpin psychopathy, whereas the quality and degree to which psychopathic traits are manifested in an individual's daily life are unaffected by their environment. Introduction This research intends to answer the question of whether a psychopath’s characteristics are born with or they develop after birth. Today, the word "psychopath" is sometimes used positively to describe people whose actions are portrayed as fascinating. We are all fascinated by the idea of stepping into the shoes of a psychopath, thanks to television programs, dramatic films, and suspense comics. I identify with those who seek excitement via risk-taking and find their way of thinking and lack of compassion for others and the world around them fascinating. There is encouraging evidence for the neurological mechanisms that may underlie psychopathic behaviours, but it is not yet adequate to demonstrate a primarily biological aetiology for the illness (Miller & Lynam, 2015). Research on development and epigenetics may also point to intricate, multifaceted paths for people with psychopathy. It has been debated whether psychopathic tendencies are more influenced by genetics or environment (Viding & McCrory, 2019). Their lack of empathy and antisocial tendencies have received the most attention up to this point. This is explained by biological mechanisms, not by the individual's life history (Hofmann et al., 2021). This study shows that the disorder's root cause is inside the brain's neurological architecture. Primary psychopathy (or Factor 1 efficacious traits) is thought to be strongly heritable. In contrast, subsequent psychopathy (or Factor 2 social deviance) is most affected by the individual's upbringing and social milieu (Frazier et al., 2019). Using a large data set, the study examined the possibility of differential heritability. Due to its small sample size, the results were equivocal; this further confirms the need for empirical investigation. Several major critiques have been levelled at the field of psychopathy study because of its alleged disregard for developmental data showing significant impacts of the environment on biological and behavioural processes (Viding & McCrory, 2018). The results confirm the validity of the nature vs. nurture argument. Method Multiple research have looked at the biological basis of psychopathic tendencies since Hare's book came out in 1999. Nevertheless, much of this material has been influenced by a discussion between academics and professionals about whether or not violent or antisocial conduct underpins the psychopathy definition. This is why the authors decided to look at research that examined not only psychopathic personality traits utilizing established measures of the construct but also theoretically related characteristics and actions that were used in place of psychopathy-specific targets to the young age of the disciplines or their involvement as a proto-psychopathy indicator. Results There have been studies looking for correlations between the biological makeup of the brain and the characteristics of a psychopath. The prefrontal cortex may be impacted by hormonal and environmental triggers and neurotransmitter abnormalities. The research provides empirical evidence that environmental factors significantly contribute to flow interruption and hormonal imbalance. Conclusion Without seeing psychopathy...
