Dissertation Proposal Coursework
Please submit your completed dissertation proposal of 2500 words (+/- 10%) via Blackboard
by 13:00 (UK time) on Thursday 12th January 2023. Late submissions will be penalised in accordance
with the University regulations. Please refer to the Research Dissertation (Logistics) Handbook for
information about the dissertation requirements, typical structure, etc.
Your dissertation proposal must include the following sections and address their indicated
requirements:
1) Working title for dissertation
2) Research aim: Briefly state the research aim of your dissertation. The aim should be achievable for
your research within the resources and time available.
3) Research questions: These should be developed to address the research aim. You should typically
develop a set of between 2 and 6 research questions.
4) Context: Based on the key literature for your topic, synthesise the context for your research aim
by providing an initial review of academic and professional literature relevant to your research. You
should include at least 10 key references, most likely a combination of books, journal articles and
reports; where referencing books, you should be specific about which part(s) of the book is relevant.
(N.B. the reference list does not count towards the word total).
5) Research methods: Outline, with reasons, what primary and/or secondary information collection
methods you think are appropriate, identify initial strategies for data analysis and show how the
proposed methods will help you to meet your research aim.
6) Research outcomes: Outline the important outcomes that you expect to find from the research
and who you think will find the results relevant.
7) Likely limitations or potential problems: Identify the main limitations or problems that you may
face in the course of this research and state what actions you plan to take to ensure that you can
satisfactorily address the research aim.
8) Time schedule: It should present an initial list of planned tasks and their anticipated time
duration. You should undertake some preliminary tasks during Semester 2, with a full- time focus on
your dissertation from May 2023 (after Semester 2 assessments) until the dissertation submission
deadline on 31st August 2023.
