Should smoking in public places be Illegal: Cons of smoking
The moot topic has attracted differing opinions from scholars and interest groups over the years. The tobacco cigarette companies always ensuring that, they are in bed with politicians, to protect their interests. They go to an extent of bribing and even splurging on the politicians just to remain in business unrestricted.
Banning public smoking would ensure that the citizens live a healthier lifestyle, without the various medical complications caused by tobacco cigarettes. The move would be widely embraced by the larger public as it would be considered a government initiative, which in itself has a major influence on the general population. Making public smoking illegal would change the negative perception about the government by the mass. Even the habitual smokers would be encouraged to abandon the habit thus resulting to an industrious and healthy population.
Making public smoking illegal would safeguard the life of the smoker and that of the public. Various researches and studies have shown that second hand smoking causes sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), lung cancer and heart diseases in both the smokers and non-smokers. Center for Disease Control (CDC) reports that, "second hand smoke contains at least 250 chemicals known to be toxic, including more than 50 that can cause cancer," (CDC, 2009). This is quite a dangerous habit to the entire population, even to the passive smokers who do not have a hand in smoking but suffer nonetheless. The startling numbers in deaths are further elaborated in the CDC report, "The California Environmental Protection Agency estimates that secondhand smoke exposure causes approximately 34,000 lung cancer death...
