Effect of Ionizing Radiation on DNA
Various reactions in the human body cells majorly occur due to vulnerability of tissues to the ionization radiations. In some instances, such counteractions results into death of some body cells while others are not affected. In addition, radiotherapy has led into effects associated with destruction of the DNA in the delicate malignant cells; thus, causes the damage to the latter. The case only occurs as a result of making the cancerous cells exposed to the radiation.
The radiation that conveys sufficient energy to remove the orbital electron from the molecules is referred as the ionization energy. Notably, the latter makes the molecules unbalanced when the DNA gets susceptible to the radiation. In essence, the instability occurs due to the mass movement of the electrons from the initial positions to create an emptiness identified as a hole. In most cases, the deposition of energy differs from different forms of radiation.
