Abstract
Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is a dangerous disease and a life-threatening infection that can be contracted by contacting a bacterium called Streptococcus pyogenes and Staphylococcus aureus. These bacteria are mostly found on the mouth, skin, and nose; however, they can be transmitted into the bloodstream and release harmful toxins in the body. In addition, the toxins can disrupt the organ system's normal functioning by damaging the skin and other organs of the body. After manufacturers pulled the tampons out of the market, the cases of toxic shock syndrome in menstruating women have declined since the disease has been associated with menstruating women utilizing the superabsorbent tampon.
Research shows that Toxic Shock Syndrome is most common in women's bodies, affecting menstruating women who use tampons. According to the CDC, this potentially a dangerous disease triggered by the introduction of a toxic substance from the overgrowth of a bacteria substance called Staphylococcus aureus. When someone contracts the disease after getting affected by the bacteria, the body responds, decreasing the blood pressure and depriving its oxygen that can cause coma or lead to death.
